After reading lots of threads and articals I know that "some" people actually use and even abuse their Busse knives . But it seems as though because of the way they are released , alot of people buy them as collection peices that they store away in their safes and closets .

I recently bought my first Busse , a Basic 6 LE . Even though it's not one of Busse's top knives , it was stated by Jerry himself that this knife will not be released in any configeration again . So do you guys use these or hang onto them because there won't be anymore made ? I'd just like to get your thoughts BEFORE I go out and beat the crap out of mine lol .

While I'm here , Merry Christmas and a safe and happy holiday season to everyone here and their families !

EDIT: I'd like to add here , that knowing many of you have had MUCH more experience with Busse and Busse kin knives , would you say the Basic 6 LE would be more of a user or a collector ?

Hang on to them, many people do use their Busse's, however there is a large collector factor and keeping your knife mint will increase its value. If you can get your knife in the forum's after Jerrys GO GO GO the resale value will increase within a year or so. Ive seen increases of even 40% within one year depending on the model. It a fun way to admire a knife carefully play around with it and then sell it for a little more than you paid. Everyone has the expectation that the next knife purchase will be the perfect knife and will turn into a keeper/user but many times its just the thrill of new steel thats at the heart of it.

PS; Busse is one of the few brands where knives purchase increase in value in a very short period of time. It makes Busse collecting a mentally justifiable no loss activity, unless you use it and then it's resale drops dramatically.

Both, of course.

Congrats on your first Busse. If you decide to make that one a safe queen, then get yourself a user next.

Have both users and safe queens..... It's all up to the owner but to truely LOVE INFI it must be used and abused!

Oink

A few years ago I read a statistic that over 85% of Randall Made Knives were bought as collectible pieces that would never see use in the field. A fact that I'm sure has Bo Randall spinning in his grave, given that he viewed his wares as well-made blades that an outdoorsman could count on to perform well even under hard circumstances. My impression is that the 85% figure for safe queens vs users would pretty much apply to Busse knives as well, in spite of the fact that there are some rather high-visibility Hogs who are quite generous in publishing here their uses and abuses of Bussekin knives.

Every knife I buy is gotten with the intent to use it, mod it to suit my own purposes, mistreat it or baby it (or not) as I think the moment dictates, or otherwise exercise the blade until it fails to perform or fails to interest me any longer. Then I sell or trade it and get some new knives to play with. Steel In.... Steel Out.... More Steel In.... and on and on indefinitely.

Everyone has the expectation that the next knife purchase will be the perfect knife and will turn into a keeper/user but many times its just the thrill of new steel thats at the heart of it.
I think Dan's comment comes very close to the truth regarding the irresistible itch for new steel or the dream of a finally ultimate knife that keeps us Knife Knuts on the perpetual hunt. When the "latest-and-greatest" knife doesn't fulfill the vision or expectation we had for it, we're off on the next phase of the quest. As Jerry says, "Good Times..... Good Times."

This thread needs pics! Use!:D

I use the xxxx out of mine. What's the point of a knife that can take such abuse sitting in a safe wishing it was being beaten :)

I think it is great that people buy Busse and hold on to them for later sale so people like me can have access to a knife that has not been in production for several years. I can not afford to do that so I buy them and use but not abuse them. A Busse looks better with a few battle scars and in a few years, even after I use them they may be worth just under what I paid for them If not more.

I see more new Busse's FS than real users. I feel there's more of a collecters market for Busse's than users.

use all 30 of mine, well except the ones I have doubles of. those are in case I lose one or if someone steals one. I spend a lot of time on the water and swamps and woods so losing one is a realistic chance. I say use that b6 of yours!!!! life is short!!!!!!!!!!

The ones I buy are intended to be users. If I don't care for the way it feels in my hand or for whatever reason I don't like it alot then I just sell it and get something I like better.
