Would you say Busse's are for collecting or using ?

Busse Knives of Modern Manufacture(in the last ten years) Collector's and limited Editions will still if used, out perform in the Cutting of Clean Soft Materials(wood/hair/rope) as in Edge retention all other knives/knife brands or customs that I am aware of at this time.

That's a very subjective statement. How well do Busse's perform in tomato cutting competitions?

My post wasn't saying that Busse knives are poor performing knives, either, just that it's interesting to hear that "a knife that will out perform any knife brand or custom maker" doesn't even see use by a majority of it's owners.

In Edge retention, I would have to imagine that cutting tomato competition would still find Busse the better knife, notice that I was very specific.

I have use particular knives, for general food Prep while I have used Busse knives(I still have and use a Thin N.I.C.K.) I mostly prefer my Murray Carter knives in the kitchen, well that and Dexter-Russell.

I really like Stellite/Talonite for smaller knives.

I own both thick and Thin knives.

I did not know that the majority of Busse knife owner's use none of their Busse knives, this comes as a surprise to me(the point being not to say that things have been said because you mis-construed and follow with blanket statements) the last statement here being sarcasm and an example..

I own both users and Collectors.

I mostly attempt to pay attention to the words I use when I post, I understand that what I type one day on these Forums will follow me around from now on.

In the end, one of the strengths of Busse knives is the tendency to retain value over time and that requires a Strong resale market, Me? I like that.

Interesting collection of thoughts in this thread.

I had no idea the majority of Busse buyers never use their knives, I see so many pics of users and make sheaths for so many more that this statement comes as a shock. Though, supporting this supposition would be difficult at best.

I have users, and I have a few that never will be. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with buying knives to use or to collect, but there's always those who will condemn anyone for anything. My buddy thinks I am insane for carrying and using my Busse knife daily, he doesn't know I have a few in rotation. :p I think he'd have a conniption if I told him.

So, "Collecting or Using"? Yes. :)

Collecting or using ? Both.
And they are the best for both !
My BWM chops like nothing, my .140 Game Warden is a lovely slicer and some Custom Shop stuff is just for me to have and to hold.
I honestly only use about 4 - and I have a few more than that ! ;)

dan-g had a good point - they are worth collecting as there is an ever growing market - but how can a person have great knife and NOT use it ?
Hence I have both - users and Safe Queens. The SQs might fund my retirement....;)

I'm a 20 year old, broke college kid. I have two Busse's: a satin sar 3 and a B10 Le I just got. I have no reservations about using either one and scuffing them up. My Sar 3 is my edc and regularly cuts cardboard and plastic pallet straps and the first thing I did with my B10 was hack up the box it came in and then I chopped off some tree limbs with it. That being said, BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF YOUR B6. Anything else would be an injustice to such a great knife.

Both I use and collect and my favorite users I have an extra for collecting reason,,

They are for collecting to use! Duplicates/backups can be safe queens, but the first should be used so you can appreciate it more.
Keep in mind, the LE portion is nothing more than a number burned into the same satin INFI blade as any other SAR 6, so how much is that worth to YOU personally?
Did you buy it so sell it to someone else, or because YOU wanted to enjoy owning it? That is the answer that really matters. ;)
And don't forget the tigerhide linen on the LE is some of the best feeling handle material offered after respirene-c. I wish more blades were offered with linen micarta as an option.
If you love the way the SAR 6 feels in your hand, then use the hell out of her and don't look back and you won't regret it.
With the wide variety of comfortable and useful grips, it is one of my personal favorites in the mid size range.

Here are some pics to show the fun you are missing out on by resisting showing your SAR 6 LE some love.

I look at it this way, Money is not real, it just seem's like it is. When you can turn useless paper into a Busse knife, you have done something. I don't have a lot of spare money and each purchase is a sacrafice somewhere in my budget. I buy them to put them to work and from what I have seen, they don't lose much value from use. You can also use them freely, then send them to Busse or other places for a spa treatment and have them looking as good as they did when it arrived. A knife, gun, tool, is useless metal if it just sit's there without a purpose however, if it's a knife, gun, ect, I don't feel like will work for me, or just does not suit me, I will not use it and wait until I see something I want and sell it. If you like the knife you bought and have uses for it, put it too work. If it is lacking, put it aside and wait for something else to come along that you can use. If you use the crap out of it, and lose a few buck's upon selling, than that is the amount you paid for it's use for the time you had it. It's hard to hurt a Busse knife, you pretty much have to do it on purpose to inflict any real damage from what I have seen on these forum's and destruction test. Having said all this, I try and take very good care of my equipment and do whatever maintenance is required after useage be it knife, gun, vehicle, ect.

I only keep users, and this applies to everything. I buy a knife, keep it on the counter until I figure out if its a keeper. If it is a keeper, I immediately go and find something to cut with it to make it "used," to settle the matter. If it's not a keeper, I sell it off then and there.

USE that B6. I had one and used it (recently sold it for what I paid from Busse. Great knife, but Ive since scored a few others ;)). If you use it like ya have a brain (I dont) that model will show very minimal wear. I chopped and batoned with mine and it hardly gained any scratches or marks on the finish. Here she is after use, only scratches on it were from the sheath.

Me personally, Ive got 3 queens, and they are only queens because Ive not had the chance to use them. If I dont have the heart to use it, then it gets sold. Also, keep in mind, you can abuse the crap out of your busse and for next to nothin you can send it to the busse spa and they will make it look new again

Some inspiration for ya. Cpl k worth of users

Well I HAVE decided to use it . That was the intent when I bought it . The reason I put this question up here was because AFTER I got the knife I was doing some online looking about that model and found this .

"The Basic 6 LE will be offered one-time-only starting next week.

We will take orders for 10 days only.

The Basic 6 LE will be serial numbered. Serial numbers will be assigned in the order in which orders are received. The "GO" button time will be announced within the next few days.

The Basic 6 will not be offered again in any configuration (Combat or LE) . . . . EVER!"

This was posted on the Blades forum by Jerry Busse when he announced the Basic 6 LE would soon be released . It's price was only $277 making it one of the cheaper Busse knive I believe , but not knowing alot about Busse it still made me wonder if it might be more of a collector . But I like the ballance of the knife . I like the Resiprene C handle and in the end if it did go up even $200 in the next 5 years , that's not going to change my life much . So screw it , it's going to get the abuse it was made to withstand ;)

WOW dericdesmond ! You do have some knives , don't you ? I'm not a collector at all . I have just what I use . 1 bicycle , 1 Harley , 2 sets of snowshoes , 2 fishing rods . That sort of thing . If I had 25 knives I'd end up finding the 2 of different sizes that I liked best and the rest would sit . So I only keep what I really like and use . This does lead me to do a fair amount of buying and selling though lol . In the what seems like never ending search for THE blades .

Life is to short not to use your busse, and as long as you keep your infi in a good condition
You will get your money back!

The first thing I did with my CGNMSFNO when I got it was take it out to the woods. I didn't even take pictures of it before I started using it. I have to say, it has become my FAVORITE knife. It went through soft pine like it was paper, and harder cedar almost as well. While I was splitting wood with it, I got caught on a knot in the wood. I bashed the hell out of the back of the knife with a large log. After about 5 or 6 strikes, the log I was striking with actually broke. I don't know if it was a weak section that I hit, or if it was just the repeated stress of being hammered against INFI. None the less, it still broke over the rounded spine of the knife. When I got home, I decided that I'd had enough of a tree in the yard and did some gardening with it. While the tree was irritating, it was another opportunity for me to show somebody the joys of having and using a hard use knife. I showed the knife to my brother, told him how much it cost, and watched him go white the moment I started swinging at the tree. Too late to make the long story short, but I wouldn't trade the use of one of the finest knives I've ever owned for another of questionable durability.
