Busses are for collecting ONLY. Do not use them. Anyone who uses them is a moron.
Busses are fragile and dull. They're strictly presentation knives.
If you're planning on using your Busse, stop. And really think about it. Or, send it to me for safekeeping.

Most knives are meant to be used, whether its a Busse, Randall, Hinderer or otherwise. Unless its one of those presentation knives particularly meant to be hung on displays or show cases, it was most likely made to be used. Most Busse knives were meant to be used (although there are some that I cant think of having any particular use), however some of us can only use so many of the knives that we own, that doesnt mean that we cant have more knives because we have no use for it at the time being, or because we like a design, or for whatever the reason we may like the knife at the time being.
Folks will collect knives for many reasons, some for investments, and some because of the rarity or antiquity, some for the joy of owing a model, some for users, and some just because they like a blade. There are no wrong reasons for collecting, nor is there anything wrong with it. I have had bought used knives just to have it in my collection as well.
Just because you use a knife doesnt mean that it will lose its value significantly. Some will gain in value regardless; it depends on few different factors. Look at the Straight Handle knives for example.
Different strokes for different folks. If you like a certain knife and have a use for it, go all out and use the heck of it. If you dont have a use for it but like it for whatever the reason may be, there is nothing wrong with that either. There is no wrong with doing either.

Buy and use (don't abuse) the cheap(er) ones like a few Scrapyard blades, hold on to the more expensive ones and maybe sell them later. I always feel bad for beating on a blade that's even somewhat expensive. To me, that's like buying a $200,000 car and driving it until the wheels fall off.
But then again, you pay for performance, so you might as well use them for what they were designed to do. And that something is take a hell of a beating and just keep asking for more.

If money is tight ... buy one only and use it ... get the full experience ...:thumbup:
If you have some capital, buy three and sell two a year or so later ... your user will probably be $100 cheaper minimum on the likely increase for the two sold.
The Basic's will always be in demand as "users".

Use the ones that suit your needs. Then, with discretionary funds, buy as many of what you like assuming you are already covering essential future retirement/emergency/whatever expenses with your income. Sell when the urge/need hits you. Simple.

As for the original question, Busses are for using, Swamp Rats and Scrap Yards are for collecting because they're too delicate for using
I use most of my knives, and I beat the hell out of them. Not to say I haven't collected a few safe queens over the years, but most my knives I use. I love knives, so I collect them, but 95% of the Busses I have are users.
