Wtb burlap and or rag micarta.

Nice wolf! I found I had to make sure I layed them down pretty square to keep the weave straight. How thick was yours slab? Might experiment and see if I can do a block just for info sake for others and me down the line.

Thanks, used about 10oz of resin and ended up with about a 1/4" thick slab..Boy, you have to work fast dont you? Next time I plan on using about half(16oz) and go for a 3/8"+slab..

If you'll work in a cool area (say..below 75), the pot time of most resins slow down and you'll have a little longer to work with it. Which resin did you end up using?

Heh had a bunch of days off to play around with it. How many laters of burlap are you using? I want to see if it is about the same as mine.

Had to try this a while back, this was the second try. Polyester Resin as has been mentioned (the 14 drop hardener type). Seven layers of burlap, 5 oz. resin, clamps, baked under a ruby red heat lamp for about
an hour in the plates and clamps. The thickness came in just over .125. As Stacy said maybe a bit softer
than some resins--- no biggie to me, I constantly work with material way softer for handle material. I may try
to see if I can get the poyester seat belt type material to wet out some time. Should be a good match if
I can get it to wet out. would I ever make it to sell? NO. Ken. Sorry for the crappy pic.

Here's a shot to better give you an idea of the gloss. 600 white compound 1800 rpm's followed
by 1400 white plastic polishing compound with light pressure. Ken.

is there truely a demand for blok and scale sets in the plain layers. i might be convinced to make a block it woudl be maybe 6x10x4

Well first off, I am glad to see the interest and experimentation here. Good stuff.

Second, and yes I have retired to mange my Dads place in Mexico. I expect to spend more and more time down there in the future.

BUT

Son of fod has been pointing out that I have way too much time and effort and $$ wrapped up in this bit of my laminate business. That and we'd miss all the cool people that are in the custom knife business.

SO

With son of fods assistance, I will be taking and filling orders as I am able while training son of fod to take over while I am out of town.

Look for a sales thread later today:)

I'll be looking forward to your new stuff fod, you were just leaving the knifemaking scene as I was getting into it so though I have seen and admired a lot of your work I never got the chance to use any.
