Ya know .... this forum really blows...

Here is what you do. Kill the cable tv. It's all junk anyway and your better off without it. Now kill the cell phone. Why the heck do you need that - really - why the heck do you need that. If you need it for work, then work should be paying for it. If you need it so your honey can call you every 20 minutes, maybe you can forgoe the luxury :) Now you just liberated $1000/year for survival gear...

Oh yeah ... lets not forget those "great" photos you guys post

I'm like ...... oooooh that's nice , WOW I've gotta get one of those

It's just not fair !

I came on this site with the intent of buying A knife .. just one .. all I wanted was some good advice ............. next thing you know I'm ordering gear bags, ferro rods , more knives along with other miscellaneous survival / camping gear. Now I'm looking into a hammock / tarp. I think I'm hooked

Where does it end ??????

You guys REALLY suck ! ;)

One of the requirements for a real knife-knut/wilderness-survival person is a deep-seated need for gadgets. This is not a 'want.' It is a 'need.' (But it's a healthy, enjoyable need! :D ) We have drawers full of knives (which is what led us into all of this,) and drawers full of flashlights, whistles, fire-starters, stun-guns, compasses, pepper sprays, para-cord in seven different colors, and of course, bread crumbs. Our closets are filled with back packs, day packs, rucksacks, shoulder bags, butt packs, belt pouches, leg stashes, and a shopping bag or two. All of them necessary. (At one point I was up to 14 different camera bags before my wife put her foot down...)

So forget the kid's college fund, forget about that get-away with the wife to Club Med, and pick up the latest Brigade Quartermaster catalog. While you're at it, order a nice fixed blade for yourself. Have fun with your new addiction! Remember, only 213 more days until your birthday! :)

Well Stitch .... my b-day is 25 days away .... a nice fixed blade huh ... maybe I'll go easy and just order a FEW more trinkets from Countycomm.

Why not.

LOL ..... somebody stop me !

Is there an end? Is there a light at the end of the tunnel? I can't see it. Please, someone tell me there is an end. Has anyone actually seen the end. Has anyone actually met someone who has been to the end? The end.

WOW ... obviously I don't need that many knives ....but would I like to have them all HELL YEAH !!!

Yeah, I came here with just two "real" blades almost two years ago. Swamp Rat RatWeiler and Bandicoot...

Now I have over 30 knives, 6 packs, and a pile of WS items. Crap... ;)

But more importantly, I made some great friends and learned some amazing stuff here too. Even my wife is surprised from what I have learned, even though she thinks I am nuts...

While it doesn't fit on my key ring, I do have a great model for my fire piston...

Yep, there's an end -- when your wallet is empty, your credit cards are maxed, and the bank account is dry, you're at the end. . .until next paycheck. Brian wasn't kidding when he said "Welcome to hell." It's like that Greek myth about the guy in hell pushing a boulder up a hill, when it almost gets to the top, it rolls back down. It's like that here: you've got all theknives you coudl ever want. You've got your "perfect" outdoors setup, your perfect tactical setup, your perfect EDC setup. Then tomorrow you see something more perfect and it starts all over. . .

Give it time.

LOL I came here because I had a SAK, A Buck 110, a Ka-Bar USMC and an Estwing hatchet and just wanted to talk about how great they were with everyone else that had them. Several thousand dollars later. . .I guess the good thing is, it slowed down my gun buying. . .

In all seriousness though, this forum really is a healthy segue to the consumerism rat-race that is out there. While most of us do end up spending lots of cash on gear and such you rarely see cost or consumerism hype driving the discussion here. This is one of the few places where a person's home-made shoulder bag can be objectively compared along side the latest maxpedition series and people consider their merits irrespective of the cost differences.

Our knives, even though we have piles of them, tend to be simple ones chosen with purpose in mind and intent on using them. Some of us like natural materials, others synthetic, others both but we don't go chastising someone because they really like their buck 119 (which I do).

Fortunately people like Doc-Canada keep us honest when it comes to discussing skills and he frequently reminds us of the need to practice them whether it be through a set of excellent tutorials on plant i.d., knot tying or trap making.

The whole reason I fell into WS&S was that I was trying to improve my first aid kit. I did accomplish that except it is no longer a first aid kit but rather a PSK. Actually most of this was built with readily available supplies and I have something that might have cost several $100 for a pre-made kit but at a bare fraction of the price. Arguably this inspired me to take a wilderness first aid course (4 full days) which I absolutely think was worth the experience and I feel so much more confident in my ability to handle first-responder type situation. This exceeded anything that the typical 1-d first responder seminar cover by a long shot.

Overall, for what we might be labeled as a bunch of gear heads, WS&S really isn't all that bad on the consumerism. We all appreciate knives in form and function, and this sub-group is certainly far more leaning towards the function end of things.

I haven't had the pleasure of meeting my fellow forumites in person at one of the gatherings yet, but I look forward to the day when one of those meetings are consistent with my schedule. There are several folks around these parts I'd like to share a beer with!

Everytime we go on vacation or a weekend trip somewhere I'm looking for the nearest camping/sporting goods dealer :p Some of these knives & gear I would have never known about if not for this place ! Thanks Guys, for spending my hard earned money ! My wife thanks you also :p
I'm Hooked & lovin it !

I wish I could say it gets better, KoRUpTD. It doesn't. However, I don't really consider it a bad thing. :D

I've learned an incredible amount on this forum, found some amazing custom makers, picked up some great ideas, and met a lot of awesome, like-minded people. I love this place. To me it's far better to see all kinds of stuff I can't afford now, but can put on a list for later and know I need, and pick it up a little bit at a time, than to be unprepared if/when the defecation hits the oscillation.

I'm getting ready to put in an order to County Comm and another to Liberty Mountain (my neighbor/boss gets wholesale rates with them) this coming week, in fact. All little stuff, but needed. I just bought two custom knives from makers I heard about, and speak to, here on the forums. You just can't beat that.

I frequent several online communities, and for friendliness, tolerance of stupid questions (there are none except those that aren't asked) and sheer willingness to share information and tips, etc., this is by far the best and most welcoming. I wander off every now and then due to a lack of time, whether to spend outdoors or online, but I always come back here.

Welcome to the club, man. ;)
