With 300+ knives, my yellowhandles are the only ones that I deem necessary. I can't explain it. It doesn't make sense, but the yellowhandles are the only knives I WILL NOT leave home without. My medium stockman and sodbuster jr both go with me most days. Occassionally I will substitute the soddie for something else, but that is due to what job we are doing that day.
This morning I had a problem arise. Monday and Tuesday we had a large grading and sod install. My medium stockman always rides in my right front pocket. This morning before I left I noticed that from 2 days in the dirt, that knife had lots of dirt/grit in it. It could be heard grinding just opening it up. I washed it out and laid it out to dry. Not thinking I had time to deal with it, I needed something to replace it. My sodbuster jr would be in my back pocket, but with seeding/fertilizing/lime to do today, I needed a knife with a good point in that pocket. I got my Schrade stockman down and put it in my pocket. 2 minutes later I didn't like how it felt in my pocket. Went back to my shelf. Yellowhandle peanut has point to handle what I need. Grab it, and can't feel it even in my pocket. Now my mind is starting to play games with me. I have got people at the shop already on the clock. Can't stand the thought of the medium stockman sitting on the drainboard all day. So I grab the knife and get my wife's hair dryer out. Get it dried and 3-in-1 oil it down. Give it a little TLC, and off to work I go happy as normal. A few people on the clock wasn't important enough to leave my medium stockman at home. Priorities have to be adjusted when a yellowhandle hangs in the balance.
