"Yeller" Handles

I thought everybody had a yella back pocket pimped out by Kerry Hampton ;)

"Yeller". I got some. Mostly from exploring the new Buck offerings.

I love Case CV's and I want them to have a yeller properly pronounced yaller handle. However I did break down and buy a stainless Case fish knife, it does have a yaller handle. I amp of the older generation and I remember that either a yaller or bone handled trapper was the preferred local (Arkansas) mariage councellor. My wifes uncle could totally dismember and cut up a hog with one. When I did it I had to also use a hack saw.

I got one less yellow knife tonight. Gave one to a friend who's a few years older than I. He got all teary eyed because he said both his grandfathers had had yellow handled pocket knives and the knife I gave him brought back all those memories.

This apparently brings us full circle to jackknife's opening post about yeller knives bringing back memories. By golly he's right.

Very cool Frank...

I have posted this pic somewhere before but I think it belongs here...

I remember when I was a kid, seeing all those "yeller" handled pocket knives in the display cases and wanting one real bad. I finally cured that itch a few months ago with an A.G. Russell Sowbelly trapper. I might just bite the bullet and get one of those large folding hunters with yellow Delrin from AGR as well.

I'll have to take a group photo of my yellers one of these days.

This is how you guys get the new converts!!!!!!

This very knife was passed on to me (gifted by Flymon, who must have gotten it from Modock ED ) because I stumbled in to this forum and asked a question about getting a quality production slip joint knife.

Here she is now, a year (and a couple of owners and trips in the PO) later. I have to say, this is a pattern and color I did not think about before getting this knife. I sure like it now. It is like a worry stone in my pocket. Always pulling it out to open it, or rub the scales in my pocket. (It came refreshed, and shiny)

I was sitting around shooting the breeze in the hallway with some older gents at church (by older I mean older than I am..........because 35 ain't old yet). I usually have a knife to pass around.

First question was what the heck I do to get my knives so sharp (sandpaper, rubber pad.....then strop).

The second guy said "This is an old knife. They don't make them like this any more" I told him it was recent manufacture. The guys were very interested that you could still get knives like that any more, made in the USA no less!

I love stories like this. Also, beautiful knife.

growing up my dad had a yellow handled boker stockman that could cut the stink out of poop... that was his go to knife for all species of animals....it cleaned fish, rabbit, turtle and more....it also served as protection ( along with a super sharp TL 29 and an old iver johnson 22 revolver ) when we went on long trips

The same thing happened to me when I showed my 54 big jack to my buddies dad. He has a collection of thousands of older to old slipjoints and when he saw mine he said the same thing. Surprised to hear a company is actually making knives "like they used to". I still don't think he has jumped into GEC, he mainly go's to shows, yard sales and antique shops. Im not sure he knows what the internet is. Either way, he really appreciated seeing a new made in the USA pocket knife that reminded him of the good ones in his collection.

Here's a couple old Remington Jack's with Clip and
Spear main and "Yeller" handles..

I am surprised that "Blues" didn't post his yellow linen micarta handled Stockman!

So guess what I'll post mine, it's one of my all-time favorites and my first from Ken, but it won't be my last.
