I carry a CRK nearly every day... If I could only have one? .............. Spyderco

I have one of those !
IT IS A TREASURE !

I never expected CRK and Spyderco to be in a tie. Prices being the obvious variable. To me, it just means that 'buy what you can, use what you buy' is the simplest approach.

Two main problems, IMO for the listed choices .

Limited range of knife types and high cost , especially for a collector / hobbyist .

From Cold Steel alone , I could buy a very broad range . From very large two hand machete/ swords , down to very light weight, compact folders and fixed .

Also , only from Cold Steel can I obtain folders with a Tri-ad Lock . No other lock type else measures up , IMO , at any cost or fancy window dressings . 🤨

Edit : Cold Steel has always been a high value / performance for cost . Still is if you shop around .

If you just need to buy cutting instruments as functional working tools , you don't really need very many .

If you are a collector , hobbyist , accumulator ,on a budget , then your cost per knife matters greatly, as a limiting factor .

And Skittles, popcorn, beef jerky, a deck of playing cards, a crow-bar, band-aids, cream of chicken soup (you can do a lot with cream of chicken soup), a tennis ball, facial tissues, toilet paper, Q-tips (you can never have enough Q-tips), a bic lighter, coffee, tylenol, paracord ( don't know why, but everyone seems to think you need paracord in the apocalypse), super glue, duct-tape (of course), a hammer, an ice tray, vaseline, and hairspray.

And of course a backpack to carry all of it.
all I need is this lamp , that's ALL I need .
and this ash tray .
That's all I need ; this lamp and this ash tray . That's all I need ........

Steve Martin quote for you young'ns .

Fair points all around. I almost put Cold Steel on the list but put Demko instead since Cold Steel is now in the hands of a corporate giant which has a very strong possibility of sacrificing quality to cut costs for the sake of meeting quarterly earnings.

I collect/use old Cold Steel for the reasons you mentioned.

Also, it’s not shocking that Spyderco is tied with CRK right now. They quite possibly have the largest variety of folders and fixed blades at a reasonable price with outstanding performance.

Certainly agree that both Cold Steel and SOG , under GSM corp., are a mixed bag at best !

Still great products to be found at bargain prices , but also some overpriced real junk . And everything in-between . 🤷‍♂️

From what choices I had available I chose Chris Reeve Knives, just classic, cry once and I have always wanted one since I was a young man and I saw the one piece hollow handle knives. It was more of a wish choice. Carothers was a close second.

I think this one has run its course...though it never really had a chance to stay on course if we're being honest.

Onward and upward.
