You collect knives and you don't have a Douk-Douk?!? Story, facts, fun, adventure!

Love the history Alex, good job! I don't have one either, and have never had the desire to own one. I did have a couple of the CS PB's, but gave them away. But I still love to read the history behind iconic knives.

Alex, great thread! I have to give you a big THANK YOU! -as I never would have known about the real life peoples associated with this knife if it weren't for you posting a picture of them.

It was kind of naive of me, but I always assumed it was just some random doodle of a clown!!! -Not the case!:D

I have read about these before, and they always seemed like great knives, but with those images of douk-douk people all dressed up -I am completely sold now.

PS-anyone know about the Tiki character? It doesn't resemble any of the stuff I personally know about (polynesian). I am guessing the x on its chest represents crossed paddles? Any knowledge of symbology associated with that character would be great as well.

Thanks, everybody! You're welcome, I'm happy to please you!

(I try to find more info, but it's pretty difficult.
Seems that the Douk-Douk secret society had too much power, and it became a mafia, terrorizing people and racketing tribes. Not very surprising: it sounds like the way the Sicilian mafia has evolved from private security and justice squads to uncontrollable secret terror groups...
I'd like to know if the Douk-Douks still exist today. I'm really not sure.
I'll let you know if I find more details.)

The Tiki is a mixed creature in Oceania: half-man half-god, he is considered as the ancestor of mankind.
His symbol (on statues and jewels) protects tribes, families or individuals.

This was the day the brand was born: the original copyright document... :)

And I don't know what this is about... Looks like some primitive advertising... Anyway, this animal is awesome...

Love them!!! Such a piece of history, construction is so simple but sturdy ! the lock on the big yellow one is just crazy for a slip joint O_o
Both are brand new and very sharp , though not razor sharp but easy to fix and these are collector for me so no worries!

Sixmoon, fantastic pics! That second shot is my new desktop wallpaper. Does the stainless blade hold its edge as well as the carbon?

At a blade hardness of RC50-53 it's a bit soft for my tastes. However, I admire the nice, simple design and the great functionality.

Hehe thanks man :)
Didn't really use the blades yet, just received them from France, but logically the carbon one will keep an edge longer (but also rust way faster.. not cool for food prep :( ) , then for a 50-53 RC , some will think it's way too soft, but these knives are not made to pry open doors or be the ultimate survival blade , they are really EDC knives, that you gonna have to sharpen from time to time :)

Great looking stainless Douk Douk, sixmoon. Thanks for sharing those pictures. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who went on an immediate web search to find a retailer. No luck but glad to know that they are out there

Thanks, sixmoon. That's where I got the pair I have now  I meant that I was looking for a stainless example with colored handles after seeing your pictures. Maybe I'll have to cut back on knife purchases for a while and save up for a trip to France... to buy a knife! :D

I love my Douk-Douks. My girlfriend got me two for Christmas from Garrett Wade. They are lovely knives, and I love how they carry in slim-cut trousers. It's like they aren't even there. This is one of the reasons I love EDCing these knives and the Mercator K55K (the Benchmade Mini-Grip on its pocket clip is similarly unobtrusive for me, too).

Doukdouks are great.
I bought Tiki model. Chromed handle + blued blade. Really good rust resistance.
