You collect knives and you don't have a Douk-Douk?!? Story, facts, fun, adventure!

You are my new photographer-hero. :D

Some great photos here! One question, there are a few examples of The original Douk Douk with out the etched blade...but I have never seen one like that for sale. Anyone have a source for these?

The smaller douk in the pic came to me from a private seller on the 'bay without etch on the blade, the larger has just lost the etch through use and patina. Because of the steel this is exceptionally easy to do.

Thanks yobbos1, I love that dark blade look. I did find a French site that had what I wanted but with shipping it was over $50...use and patina sound a lot better.

Thanks for the info. Oddly enough I almost bought one last week without knowing what it was, just liked the design. Like the simple clean look to it.

Another source for Douk Douks is a store ran by a member here, Forty Two Blades Baryonyx Knife Co, I think his price may be a little better than Garret Wade, but it is always nice to support those who support the forum!

Indeed! I've got 'em. :D Great little knives. I'm a big fan of slim full flat grinds. My grandfather likes the one I gave him a couple of Christmasses ago. I inherited the "knife knut gene" from him so I try to give back! :D

I recently picked one up from FortyTwoBlades along with some other cool stuff.

I didn't get the Douk-Douk version though... I was more taken by "the squirrel.":D

Probably the best thing these designs have going for them is the blade length coupled with handle-thinness. They disappear in the pocket, yet they are large enough to slice the entire length of an apple. I like to carry it in my back pocket.

The bail is just a cherry on top.

I'm rather partial to the "Squirrel" as well. Admittedly, in part, because I think it's so delightfully silly with the squirrel stamped on the handle. :D It's also sort of like an ultra-slim single-bladed SAK or sorts. :)

Awesomely written post Alex! I feel kind of ashamed that I don' t have one of those:p
I' ve been wanting to get one for ages but somehow never got around to it. Guess that' s gonna change very soon now:cool:

Do it! You'll love it! Another great "peasant knife" in the same vein as Opinels, Svords, Mercators, etc. Elegant simplicity at its finest.
