I was at a party in December at a friends house. A young man walked up to me and introduced himself. We talked for a while and I asked what kind of work he did. He told me he was in the military. So I asked him if he gets any cool knives through the service. He told me to follow him into another room where he had a suit case and pulled out this Gerber. He handed it to me and asked if I liked knives. I told him I collected a few and enjoyed it. I handed the Gerber back to him and he said keep it. I told him thanks but I could not take his knife. He insisted so what do you do, stuck it in my pocket with a big grin.

So that's how I got my only free knife.

I have been out of the hobby for about 3 years, since my free knife I have purchased 2 new ones. Guess I'm back in.

Here's my Gerber

My first knife was given to me... I was five and got it from my neighbor, a retired colonel and I have been crazy about knives ever since

I've gotten one, from a giveaway here on Bladeforums. I would have two plus a few other things from yet another giveaway, but it seems the package was lost in the mail. So I guess that counts as two.

Yes I have.I won an SAK in a guessing contest a few years ago.I also received two as gifts from fellow formites, friends of mine with no contest or other catch involved. One was just today a used CS Gunsite II.The other a lightly used Victorinox OHT about three years ago. Both will be cherrished and those who gave them to me will be thought of every time I use them. The world has people of every description.I've interacted with some very bad individuals in my life but it's the kind, nice ones that I remember.YMMV.tom.

I've received a few off of giveaways here on the forums, and a few for free at industry shows.

It's funny how knives trap memories. I could tell you the person who gave the knife to me and exactly where i was at the moment of getting it. I've never gotten a free knife, unless it was a gift. Anybody want to change that :-).

Sure, I've been gifted or won some knives thru the years.
Even better, I've given a few away myself.

I found my first knife in the lot near my house when I was ten, it was an old Kabar 2 blade folder. Its gone now but every show, flea market and garage sale I go to I look for another like it.

I've received quite a few freebies but have given more away. Oddest gift knife was a POS movie prop from some B horror movie. The prop guys had built a little coffin for its case.

I always used to give folders to all the janitors in my building around the holidays. They were mainly hispanic and interpreted a knife gift as a sign of respect---so they liked them a lot.

I've given more than a few knives away over the years, but I'd never gotten one for free myself until very recently. I got a free knife from Pappy1959 last week- an Amherst Cutlery doctor's knife, and I love it.

I won a Victorinox Cadet and a Schrade Old timer from Vivi here from a give away, first thing I ever won in my life, woohoo!

found this knife walking to work a couple months ago. best find i have ever had.

WOW. Finding a BM 941 is quite a treat! I feel bad for whoever lost it though. For me, i was given a knife (from a contest over the kershaw forum) by Thomas! I received a Kershaw Lahar (superb knife, by the way), but ended up giving it to my now brother-in-law, since the knife he originally was carrying was some POS. He carries the Lahar wherever he goes now (except for when he goes traveling by air). I've also received two for one deals over at the exchange forum. Much love to those (if they remember who they are) for giving me a two for one deal!

I can recite every free knife I've ever gotten, beginning with the Boy Scout knife my parents got me when I was a kid. I was given a couple of $1.69 Barlows (the kind they kept in cardboard displays back in the 60s). I also was given two Case promo knives and two nice stag gripped knives, one of which belonged to my grandfather. Then I got two SAKs from two friends, neither of which I've used or carried, and, more recently, two junk folding knives from Smoky Mountain Knife Works for orders I'd placed.

No one's given me a good locking knife, though. I remained fairly uninterested in any knife until I began buying the knives I liked. I've given quite a few away, however, and the reaction has always been very positive.

haha, right when i saw that Osborne I went frantic looking for mine, it was in my pocket, whew! Maybe I'll carry something cheaper tomorrow....

Not counting birthdays and Christmas, yes I've gotten a few. In fact, I've just won two in two seperate contests here on Bladeforums.

Some contests are open to everyone, but others are restricted to Members.

If you can afford it, buying a membership helps the website out for expenses and may just win you a knife...or two!

I have a friend who found an original Ruana...in good shape too!
