You guys are crazy!

I lucked out and scored a GW early. I like it. Once Dave's back heals up, I'll have it properly sheathed as well. :)

I just picked up a Active Duty for $100 more than original price, w/sheath. YA know, to get a piece of snakeskin and satin, it was worth it to me. Again, it fell in my lap. I was literally a DAY away from getting a Dozier as a special "gift" to myself. This cost almost double that, but something I wanted much more. :)

I grabbed a Hell Razor at the store, sold it for a markup just this week - to pay for a Mud Razor I got. . . at markup. I basically just "traded down" so to speak. (I like the colors and the non-mag handles of the MR.)

But yeah, I too see a lot of ads and go "WHOA!" I wonder if, and I HATE to think this, there should be a limit on # of models you can buy from teh store. Some dude getting 10 of something is excessive. At what point do you make one happy customer and piss off 10 others? I don't know. OTOH, I could easily open multiple browsers and defeat that limit too. So perhaps this IS no answer except - don't buy stuff right now. :( Like all other "crazes," this too shall pass. And Jerry needs to make 10x the # of each GW.

I'm thinkin the SH-E I got several months ago for $300 was my deal-of-the-year tho. DANG!

I'm not picking out anyone in particular, just a general observation. I'm also not really including the one off, unique knives, they are always going to command a premium price. I just paid a good price for a knife because it was rare. I'm talking more of the production based knives, new or old that are high priced.
;)

Just teasing Tim. I know you weren't singling anyone out.

I have to be honest, I collected for a year or so and never sold a thing. Then I started selling off the more common stock I had in order to buy more elusive or singular pieces. I have never sold a knife at a loss, always at a modest or decent profit (except for one or two that I made some excellent cash on). That is one stipulation the Mrs. has put on my collecting. As long as I can sell them for as much or more than I have in them, I can still collect. She is very good to me, no? That is why I am not buying at current inflated prices. These guys hav sucked all the potential profit out of these knives for at least the next year or two in my estimation. I predict that there will be a correction of sorts and there are going to be some folks hanging onto blades they paid 20-30% too much for too soon. Not I says this wolf. It is from friends, Busse directly (which is where over 60% of my collection has come from by the way) or the Co. Store that I will buy. I will of course be on the look out for insanely cheap deals like Bill recently lucked into. :D

OH OK, I don't need to hold that extra SMOG I have for you then. :p

Hey now....easy tiger...we still can work things out...How about I buy a condo from ya and we'll call it even? ;)

I don't own any condos I'd sell. I'd have to pay more income tax on the gain than homes are worth in some states. How about a race bike? :p

I can barely afford to keep the 2 pieces of INFI I have, but I cherish and use them. I do want a couple pieces out there and I have been offered some at a reasonable price and even assistance in purchasing one that I really want.

I have sold 2 pieces of INFI at and under going prices. I personally wanted to see someone else find what I think is the best made knife around. I make my little cool pics of Busse related images and post my pics of things I do with my knives, because I am a fan and customer.

It would be cool to have investments in INFI, but I guess it's just not in me to inflate prices to sell now and buy more. If I had a FN MOASH, I would use it. If I had a SHSH, I would probably contact one of the HOGs with a good rep, and sell it for a fair price. Why, because I like to use what I have and if someone else appreciates a blade more than me, then they should have it.

Not really saying anything new here, just venting. To each their own, but THANKS to those who have helped me have the blades I love. Gotta go sleep off my 1st 9 holes ever and a bottle of Captain's (far from my 1st).

When I had to sell? or some pieces I have and bought

Holy Terror... I broke even, or made $20 on it
Uncle Mofo... I paid a mere $25 mark up on it
Large Barf and XXL Nick for a SHBM (I was trading the SHBM)
Large Barf... I sold it for what I had in it
NIP... Paid $35 shipped for it
NIP... traded it for a mint Rat trap (I told my friend what I paid, he said "No Worries")
SHBM User... sold for the exact price I paid so it would get home to it's first owner.

To me... the above puts a smile on my face everytime I think about it. Why? Because I gave deals or sold for a fair mark up and hogs gave me some KILLER deals because I was new to the fold. The above are experiences with some here that are still around and some that are not. I will not disclose names or dates, but these were a ways back.

Do I ever think this will happen again? Not with the way things are going. I had to part with some incrediable pieces that are mentioned and not. With the current pricing, if I wanted my precious pieces back, I'll have to pay around $1300 more to get my pieces back.

Hogdom is about brotherhood, not money. It's about watching eachothers backs, not their bank accounts. It's about fun, not profit. That is my opinion.

Take the above in what ever manner you want. As for the price hiking, I helped a few guys find some HR's for $287 plus shipping when they were going for $400. I certainly hope those guys haven't inflated the prices and sold them. I haven't checked. If they have, I will make a note and no longer inform them of deals. Watch what bridges you burn, as one day, a bridge may be burned that you are needing to cross ;)

Since this is a "You know what burns me?..." thread :)

You know what burns me? When a hog or pig or piglet can't post a pic of their collection without getting offers. I mean, COME ON!!! IF THEY WANTED TO SELL, THEY WOULD POST IN THE EXCHANGE!!!

Anyway... :D

I'm going to post golf clubs!

I've waited a long time for a busse. I wanted a small blade just like the GW. A small knife at a reasonable price. Wait and wait and wait. Great it's released! Sold out in minutes.
The next batch when ever they are released will sell out even quicker. I mean buy three, sell two and yours is free plus a bit left for a new sheath.

I won't pay the price demanded on the secondary market. I could barely justify a gw from the store....assuming I was one of the lucky few to be watching when it's a "go".

I can not wait for the one night when a extravaganza is held. They have always been on a night I work. I begged someone to get me an apprentice blade when they were released. I thank that person profusely but I refuse to impose again.

I'm s.o.l.

Enjoy your Busses.

Edit....i didn't bother reading the whole thread, just the first post. Flame away if you wish....

Shappa... If you want, I could see about getting you a GW. I am usually around and will do my best if you would like :) Not imposing, just giving me a reason to be on here, besides not having a life lol

KAAK,

if you want to help me find an SHSH at a reasonable price, i'll be forever grateful... ;)

i've been lurking here for a while, posted a few times. like someone else mentioned earlier in this thread, i've always been a folder guy and when i started looking for a quality fixed blade i came across busses and started spending time here. i picked up a couple swamp rats at blade west, and ordered a ram's horn game warden, which i haven't had a chance to fondle yet but am looking forward to.

i ordered an HHFSH through the exchange here, and paid more than i would have liked to considering what they went for new, but don't feel like i got took by any stretch. what was being asked was a fair price considering what the going rate was at the time. i also suspected that i would pay a lot more in the future, since i did look at a lot of old threads to see what stuff had been selling for and saw the direction prices were going. this was a knife i wanted, and it was worth it to me. i paid a lot more than what they went for a few months ago, but not nearly as much as what i saw one go for on e-bay recently ($722). i felt a little like the folks in california who although they knew they were paying a lot for real estate, probably didn't think the market would go down and wouldn't be able to afford it if they didn't buy now. no one made me pay what was asked, and i didn't feel gouged, just that there is a market that will apparently bear what is being asked. a lot of this seems to be being driven by ebay, where there is currently a SWRK M6 that is being sold for $10 more than list price when they are still available new at the store.

i don't know if anyone recalls seeing it, and it was one of the things i took into consideration when trying to decide whether or not to pull the trigger on a knife that was $100 or so more than it went for new; but there was a thread a while back on this subject (i know, there have been a couple) where someone had given a formula laying out what they considered to be a reasonable markup for reselling. it seems that it went something like $50-$100 in the first year, more after that, and all bets were off on custom and limited number pieces. that doesn't seem completely unreasonable to me when you consider that these are collectable as well as being users.

what i've decided is that i'll buy one or two pieces that i really want, and will keep an eye out as to what is available at the custom shop or company store to see if i can afford the new offerings. i certainly won't be collecting too much classic INFI at the current prices. if the bottom does fall out of the market, i'll be waiting, but doubt that folks who are buying knives at current prices will be selling them for half that down the road. i've also gotten into ranger knives. they're much more in line with my budget and it makes me feel a little like being in at the start of what goes on here, from what i've read, as far as the customer service and sense of community.

having said all that, and damn that's a lot of typing, i really do wish i had found busse sooner when i could have afforded an SHSH or SHBM, but that's not really anyone elses fault. as i've read here many times, no regrets. i'll just have to keep my eye out and hope i find a good score one of these days.

thanks for taking the time to read my $0.02 worth,

winston

I understand that in order to solve this problem Skunk is going to sell his entire colection at his cost plus 35%.

That should drive the secondary market into the dirt because after that there won't be any money left in the world, he will have it all.

Me.... I'm buying Ebay stock so I can catch the price surge from the Paypal fees.

Wintson.... Three things if I may

1) Welcome aboard. Hope to see you post more (See #3 below)
2) I'll let you know if I find something :D
3) Holy Crap!!! You post too much :D ;) :p Can't believe I read all that.

LMAO @ #3. Glad you were able to score some pieces and did your homework

As a newbe I don’t know the good old day’s when Busses were cheap but collecting Busses these days seems more like collection for profit as due to addiction.

GOLF?

You poor bastid…. You think Infi is a hard mistress?
I played every day from age 13 to maybe 28, that game owned me.:o

OMG, I won't be doing that again for awhile. My boss took our crew out for golf and dinner. I hurt so bad, and I think it has something to do with combat on the fairways and I seem to recall discovering I can drift in a golf cart.
I can see why people get hooked, but I'll stick to my INFIction.;) :D

Brother KAAK, that is pure poetry and well said.

Guess I'll be the one to congratulate Porkducci on his fine tactic......

Start this "prices are way too high" thread and get everyone busy posting into it while he roots more INFI from the trough. He's such an exemplary stealth hog! ;) :D That's what I admire so much about him... He's a living example of "No Regrets!" Way to go, Bro'ducci!!!

By the way, Tim, you are right. We all **ARE** crazy. Well, about INFI anyway.

..... Wait a second! Did I feel a shift in the INFI-Force while I was typing this due to 'ducci emptying the trough. Dang.... His sneaky little tactic even worked on me. ;) :D :D

Yowza. I read through this thread and you will pardon me for saying so since I do not even own a Busse but someone is definitely crazy. It might be the crew at Busse since there is no way that their products on the secondary market should be more expensive then identical new products. Perhaps they are not charging enough. Alternately you guys are crazy unless Busse has signed some sort of contract saying that such and such knife will never EVER be produced again. For examples if a hell razor is going for 10% above new prices on the secondary market and then Busse produces another run of them and sells them for the same price as originally the guys that bought them for 10% above that on the secondary market are going to feel fairly foolish. The other thing is that Busse basically MUST be producing knives faster then the demand is increasing. Eventually they will have to catch up. At that point it seems like a bunch of people are going to be hanging onto some very overpriced knives that they paid way to much for on the secondary market.

Or perhaps I am missing something. :)
