This RAT 2 is pretty nice. With custom scales and titanium deep-carry clip I paid $45 for it, about the cost of a Millit clip for the Sebenza.

Nothing wrong with a RAT 2. I have one and I have two or three RAT 1's. Nice knives...all NIB. I often use them for gifts.
I also have a few large CRK's. I've carried a large Sebbie or Zaan as my primary EDC for the last seven yrs or so, and see no reason to change.

IMO, you really get what you pay for.
Sure, you can get by with a RAT 2. You can also get by with a KIA instead of a LEXUS, and they're all OKAY. It amounts to personal opinion, and there is no "Right or Wrong" to the subject matter. It's nice to have knives that all of us can enjoy and afford.

This old Kershaw Blackout has served me well for many years.

The SRM 710 is not a clone of the Sebenza, just drop it with that false narrative garbage already. It's similar but not a bloody clone.

The cheapo that I've been obsessed with lately is my Kizer Tangram Santa Fe. $30 of 50 kinds of awesome.

Many of the clones are, in my experience, well worth the money. The legality (since it is MUCH more complicated internationally than most understand-including me) and morality of purchasing them is up to the buyer. Buy what pleases you, but do read the opinions expressed in this community since those opinions are informative and helpful in fitting in (if that is important to you).

Kershaw leek, and blackout that have been mentioned already. Nothing slices like a leek with a 14 dps reprofile!! I used to include tenacious in this category but I polished it up, sharpened it, and it now belongs to a friend that had his tenacious stolen.

Since downsizing my collection, I do still have quite a few in the $40-60 range, but these are the 2 sub $30 folding knives I won't part with and still carry from time to time.

I also have a blatant $20 clone which is a great knife for the price, but I won't give it any public love here because it is a knockoff. And I still keep my S&W border guard in my car as a backup/spare.

The knife pictured is absolutely a clone. Knock it off with the false justifications.
I think he's confusing clone with counterfeit.

Anyway, I bought a CRKT Amicus Compact because I wanted cheap, attractive tanto in a three inch blade for scraping and cutting rough things that I won't shove my Microtech or high end Spydercos into. I ended up doing a lot of personal mods on it, polishing things and whatnot. It's probably my favorite EDC now, lol. Turns out I'll use something a lot more if it's cheap.

The handles look a lot better than they do here. I smoothed the transition on the G10 scale and took the full polish up to 600 grit. I've had people ask if i would do the mods again, but all I have is a little diamond file and sandpaper. It took a ridiculous amount of time to do everything that I changed.

EDIT: I didn't think to mention this, but the knife has unusable-bad ergos due to the idiotic backspacer/lanyard hole that it comes stock with. It's also impossible to open with a man-sized thumb the way it ships because the hole is chamfered way too much and the scale comes all the way up to the hole when closed, so you can't access it anyway. Only buy one if you plan on modding it.

My cheapest could very well be a used PM2. I don't have real expensive taste- my most expensive is also a PM2.

In case this goes off the rails, I want to sneak in my favorite super-budget knife, the CRKT Drifter.

I found it on sale for $15-ish. I polished the washers, adjusted the pivot, and guess what? It’s action is legitimately great! No blade play. Solid lockup. Centered (ok, centered by Benchmade standards—:D). I can stud flip it or even front flip it! Size is great for me & 8Cr13 is fine for the price.

If the clip didn’t suck (way too rigid) I’d EDC the snot out of this. As is, I keep it around to remind me how good a cheep knife can be.
