Some tac-force rainbow knife I got at a garage sale for a buck.
Where do you live, because I may have been the one you bought it from.
If it was me who sold it to you then I'm sorry, I thought everyone I sold all my cheapo's would just be collecting them.

Guess it all depends on what you think is "expensive." My most expensive (cost to me) folder was $130. I don't carry that one, but I do sometimes carry the second most expensive ($120).

However, what I tend to carry every day is something like these. Pretty much all of them were in the $20 to $40 range as best I can remember. Each of these has done some pocket time or bag time in the last couple of weeks.

I will buy high value knives. In fact i get a lot of satisfaction of getting a lot of knife for a little bit of money. However, i just will not do knockoffs. I have no desire to buy knockoff nor do i ever see myself doing so. So to answer question, if i needed a knife and could only spend a small amount, i would go victorinox pioneer or cadet, or buck vantage.

The Sanrenmu 710 definitely is inspired by the Sebenza. I have seen all kinds of different opinions on how much people should tolerate that sort of thing. Sanrenmu's customers wanted a more sebenzalike knife I guess because now they have the 910 Land. The 710 has more the Sebenza Regular blade shape I noticed.

When it comes to inexpensive folders the Chinese take a huge portion of that market. Spyderco hates copies apparently but Sanrenmu makes some of their knives for them. This is all the reality of the game to bring us cheaper modern knives.

There are lots of traditional or "semi-traditional" knives for cheap. love my Higonokamis for a cheap knife. They have amazing steel for their price bracket and the blades are hand forged. Rough Riders are produced at a frighteningly high level of quality. There are cheap European semi-traditionals such as the Merkator or Douk Douk.

Then there are Opinel which were designed many years ago to make modern knife collectors feel like chumps. The Opinels are just great slicers.

I think being inspired by someone else's design is ok. I think using certain elements of another design is ok as long as they aren't protected. But making something that resembles another product so much that it is hard to find dissimilarities is not cool. For instance, spyderco uses the R.I.L. But it isn't just copying the sebenza. It is capitalizing on a technology that is no longer patent protected, or is paying royalty for its use. Look at the sage 2. Uses the R.I.L but is has spyderco written all over it.

^ you know the R.I.L. was never patented right. CR knew it was such a good thing he wanted it available to everyone.

Guys, i didn'y mean to rough any feathers.
Despite being on a Sanrenmu 710 kick lately i guess is probably good to mention i've owned 11 Crk folders before.
Currently own a 25 and drooling over a small natural micarta inkosi :)
I believe Chris has made quite a few bucks on my account, don't you think?
Still, i don't consider the 710 a knockoff. Similarities in design yes but not a copy.

Seems like you've been here long enough to know that clone threads ruffle some feathers around here.o_O:confused:

My most inexpensive (cheap just isn't the right word) is a Cold Steel ProLite clip-point. I have to say it's a LOT of knife for the price. It's very light, VERY strong in terms of the lock, I love the blade shape and find it super useful for day to day work. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good EDC for very little money. I might get the tanto version here soon just to keep a good thing going.

Ah. So since you have spent money on CRK knives, that entitles you fund a company that rips off of his work.

Glad you clarified that.

Yeah...it's like the people here enjoy knives and respect the people who make their livings designing and making them.

It's nuts! I mean, I could see that kinda thinking in a forum dedicated to knife lovers, but here?!? I don't get it.

Hey...wait a second....o_O

Lately the only budget knives that have getting pocket time for me are the Ontario Arrow, the D2 ESEE Zancudo, and a Swiza D04 (an interesting alternative to the “traditional” SAK that I’ve become very fond of)

My favorite budget knife is the Victorinox Junior (My First SAK Ibelieve it is called).

Only 2 tools, bottle opener, and a duckbill blade. Very friendly looking, but a damn good slicer as well.

I buy expensive knives purely for the technical prowess they exude, since for my every day uses (cutting paper, tapex and cardboard), no knife beats the price/value ratio of a Vic SAK.

Also doubles as an awesome keychain

gotta admit that I am a fan of Chinese and budget folders, and have amassed them for years. I mainly carry one of them together with my Spyderco or Cold Steel, usually as beaters or to lend them, or if there is risk of loss.
My favorites for the last 5 years have been these (Bad pics of good knives)

I would also recommend these Ganzo and Enlan, politics and ethics not considered
