You Knew It Would Happen !!!

Everyone keeps asking who carries a sword while hiking?
Depends on what this "sword" actually is.
I regularly carry a kukri with me when hiking. A pant-wetter could certainly think that a 20" Ang Khola is a "sword".

South of the border, the machete is the common weapon of choice...everybody has one. With the influx of illegal aliens from Central/South America, the machete is going to be encountered more and more often!!! Something to think about when deciding how you might need to defend yourself......

I was trail running once in the foothills near San Diego. I came around a blind corner and found myself in the middle of a group of 50 illegal aliens! They had women and kids with them so I wasn't to concerned, but what if you encountered 50 hungry, desperate men or some drug runners????

good idea actually

ima start a thread in the tactical section, about what to use against machetes.

I tried carrying a sword instead of my 38 S&W for awhile but it kept dragging on the ground and messed up the tip. So I went back to the 38.

Ontario makes a kind of wakizashi that gets sold as a "machete" sometimes, and I've seen a cheapie version of it, too, and they come in an over-the-shoulder rig. Not real stealthy, but if you're a ninja, no one will notice you, anyway, right?

I know they didn't state what nationality the sword/bat swingers were, but I've encountered So. of the border types in our local hills and they always have short machetes, short bats, or other weapons with them. Had a run in with several as a couple of friends and myself were scouting for an upcoming deer season in the mtns south of us. They wanted our money and gear as they (6 of them) stood menacingly around us. Fortunately, we were also doing some plinking and each of us had SA sidearms with us. I think they are still in prison.

I'm more scared of running into, pot growers, meth labs or other illegal operations than illegals. Unless they are mules, most illegals just want to get somewhere to work. Baggy pants gang banger types don't like the "Hill Jacks" as they call them. Country folk believe in "shoot. shovel and silence." The only time you see them in a park is when a project is near a metro park or something. Then they bust into joggers cars and harass people on the trails. If you get into real wilderness they are out of their territory. I would like to find a bunch of them out in the boonies and take their shoes and clothes and make them spend a night or two out in the woods. The "hood" is their territory but the "wood" is mine.
