Ok guys and gals. Haven't been around much in the last week or so. Work has been demanding and I am still learning how to be a long distance father to a freshman son in High School (who just lost his first JV soccer game as a starter) and husband. But....I have to vent. I agreed to do some sheaths for a friend to include in the sales of his knives. Thus far, I have been behind in what I thought I could produce for him. But, I had six works in progress that I set outside of my basement appt window to dry in the sun while I was at work. I have done this before on my own sheaths and NEVER had a problem. Today, I come home after a long crazy day and they are gone. G-O-N-E gone!!!!! Two finished and 4 were not even sewn yet!!! I was just letting the dye dry on them!!!!!! So, let the record show that I am PISSED!!!!! I made a commitment that I have not been able to fulfull, and now this. I will step up my efforts, but I am beginning to think that maybe I am not cut out for the commercial part of my hobby. I will make good on my commitment, but, right now after that, I'm not sure what I should do.
That is all,

Check the neighbor's doghouse? A thief of the K9 variety (not the one in New England) would be my first suspect. That sux.:grumpy:

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bro no worries man, focus on your priorities... maybe a neighbor or someone grabbed them to keep the neighborhood stray from chewing on them.... we can only hope for the best... sucks to hear and what a way to end an already overwhelming day...

hey I don't expect to hold you to anything, I'm okay with whatever you want to do with no hard feelings....if you want to make good on it for your own sake that's cool, do it at your own pace and on your leisure, don't try to push your hobby into a commercial setting or you're going to lose interest... and I for one don't want you to do that...
Don't make it seem like work, or you'll start to hate it...... been there....

ETA: btw, I hate what the governments done to you and your situation as per our conversation, just wanted to add that publicly for uncle sugar...fwiw

I'm going to suspect either a 4-legged thief or the wind blew them off the window ledge and you just haven't found them yet.

Crewdog,
Never thought of that..You could have a good point. But, there are no dogs allowed in the complex. Not to say that it couldn't have been a wondering K9 thief. But, your point brings me down a couple of decibles on my frustration. Thanks for the perspective.

Rob,
Thanks man. I'm good with just doing what I can for you. But, I learned a valuable lesson.......shit happens! I still want you to include me in on the business plan though.

It really was a pretty calm wind today. But, after I calmed downed, I thought the wind may have been the culpret. I went out and looked all around and found nothing. So,,,,It may well have been a wondering dog. I have more peace with that option than thinking that it was a 2 legged thief. Thanks for the perspective.

Im still alive, Just in the middle of a nightmare kitchen remodel. If I could burn my house down without getting caught.....I would.

it was the voice of experience. :)
even my pets -- who know better than to shark my projects -- have been known to "relocate & expedient field distress" projects set aside to dry on occasion -- especially ones with oil based dye added.

yeah sucks for sure....another scenario could be maybe the cow wasn't completely dead after all !!!! I mean we're all aware of zombies walking the streets aren't we??

Doug, tomorrows another day man... and before you know it your time there will be over and you'll be back home, or better yet maybe you'll be relieved of your duties early, you just never know....

take care,
rob

hmm, the fires we had here couple weeks ago made me wished it spread really, really close to my house.... :D ooops, was that out loud???

take it easy Josh it will all come to end eventually, and no don't leave any stain rags bunched up sitting by a pile of wood and mineral spirits :)

BE, that sucks!! I don't know what the heck someone would want a sheath for a knife they don't own, let alone an unfinished one. I'd imagine you had a lot of time into them too. I'll have to agree to not let the sheath making turn into a job. Too many people gotten burned out on a fun hobby when it ends up being a job.

Balding, Just a temporary setback. Just remember you get better with each one so your acquiring unexpected experience and the next ones will be even better. The business end can be tough at times, I have found that whatever timeline I estimate I will need on orders I double it. On the rare occasion that I completely screw something up I still have enough time to redo it. Plus everyone is happy when they get their order 'early'.
Lately I have been working in weekly batches. My orders times are 3 weeks out so I do cutouts on monday and have them done and shipped by the following monday. So far that has been working out much better for me, timewise.

On an unrelated note, I finally got my Springfield custom in but can't shoot it for at least 2 weeks. As my Doctor put it, I am probably the most stubborn, hard headed and difficult patient he has ever had to deal with and if I come back in with ripped out stitches again from working he is going to kick my ass. Scissors and a draw knife are extremely difficult to use at the moment.

At least its pretty to look at
