You old Sod (GEC content)

I like it. Does anyone know what the 01 is hardened to?

I don't have much experience with the steel either. Any advice on the 1095 to 01? I read 01 has vanadium. Aside from that?

Thanks

Than you for the link Jim, that's actually the one I found. Thank you also for the feedback on edge retention.

Still wondering about the hardness from GEC :)

The only knife I have with 01 is a Randall and I believe they are run soft. I have sharpened and used it. But I guess its going to come down to the RC for the comparison?

From what I have read about these work knives with collector appeal, the goal is to be able to offer them just like the prototype, O1 steel, synthetic handle material, and GEC quality for under $50.
I hope they can pull it off, and would be inclined to try one out at that price point for sure. Especially if offered in that Goldenrod Micarta.

I called GEC and spoke to a nice lady. She told me these will be 57-59 on the RC scale.

She also told me that is how they run all of them. I believe her, but now I am having a brain fart on where I came up with 59-60 RC for their 1095.

I really thought I found this number quoted from the manufacturer. I guess not.

Sorry Kevin. I snatched one up yesterday and when I checked back they were sold out. Does anyone know whether these have a cam tang or a half stop? I received a shipping notice, so I'll post pics as soon as it arrives.

Don't be sorry to me Josh. It would have been great to get it on it but I'm glad they sold out so quickly. Really leaves no doubt about the level of interest :)

Congrats and I look forward to your pics.

It looks like these are available again. The "Sold" sign is off on Mike's site. Apparently they sold out the "trial run" pretty quickly and decided to make some more. Kudos to Bill and Mike for taking a chance on this.

Thank you Keith!! I think I am in :)

I may have been premature in my post, Kevin ..... I see the "Sold" sign is now back on. Maybe there was an order or two that was cancelled and hence a knife or two became available again, but not necessarily a whole new run?

I was wondering the same thing because I soon as I saw your post I went back, but the "sold" sign was still there for me. I'm excited about this new pattern and the potential for lower cost, different handle options. I'm glad the test run sold out!

I'm very much interested in different handle options. I love this pattern and GEC has some great handle material. Hopefully we'll see some other offerings.

I think maybe I got in on the last of the trial run Keith. Either way, thank you. This is a great no guilt user knife to me. I'm already planning to EDC mine :)

I hope for a production run also.

Good for you Kevin. I felt a bit guilty getting what I think was one of the last ones after you'd shown so much interest. I'm glad you managed to snag one.
