Young Knife collectors/users?

I see where I went wrong, I was living on my own at 17, I don't blame you guys it's expensive to live away from home, my daughter is gonna be 23, (she has a small collection herself, mostly Girl Scout knives) and she's got one more semester of college till she gets her Masters degree, she works full time and she lives at home.

Build your collections now, once you start college, move out, get married, have kids, it gets harder, (now I'm depressed, I miss being younger :) )

Alright, I'm gonna bug outta yer thread now, again thanks for being a great example of responsible young collectors, I enjoy your posts and I'll see ya around the forums. BTW, start collecting traditional patterns, you'll get there eventually anyway and you could get into some custom traditionals now from new up and coming makers at a reasonable price and 20-30 years from now you'll own some nice investment pieces.

Later guys enjoy your thread.

Don't get married and don't have kids. :D

What do you consider a kid? I'm a teenager and younger than most on bf, but I'm in a totally different part of life than you.

Out of all of you, who likes traditional knives? Please don't let me be alone. :o

I prefer modern knives, but i do like and have some traditionals. One of my most used knives is a Case Peanut :)

Under 20 I guess. *shrug*

I am just under. I wouldn't call myself a kid, but not really a fully independent man. I use my Spyderco Native, GEC Tidioute Charlow, and now my Culberson necker a lot. I use all my knives though (albeit some less). My biggest knife overall is probably my Cold Steel Large Tanto Voyager. I'm not real into big knives. Making a chopper though.

I really didn't know there were so many younger knife collectors on the forums here. I'm turning 17 this month so i consider myself on the younger side and my primary interests in knives go towards large-ish outdoors/survival fixed blades. As a avid backpacker and bushcrafter I have a pretty good excuse to get out and use my blades. Currently my largest blade is a HI 16.5: WWII khukuri.

Oh I left out a big part of my whole "how I got into knives" story :D When I was 14 I saw a special on the history channel about crucible steel from some famous black smith. Anyway I set out to make my own forge and I actually pounded out serviceable knives that dont look horrible. They just arent pretty! Haah. I made the forge out of a giant oil funnel and some piping, along with my moms hair dryer. Heres the picture of my first 2 knives I forged! Right now im working on a tomahawk head out of a ballpeen hammer. Youtube can teach you alot!

Way to go, keep it up.

Pretty soon we'll be buying something from you.

Great work.

And 9blades im sure I saw you at the last Blade show! Younger people tend to stick out haha.

Nice:)

I like ALL knives but especially Kabar/beckers and ESEE and mora

My biggest knife is a bk9 (9'' blade)

The Kid #339

Where did that friction folder come from, and what animal do i have to sacrifice to get it

It came from China! :D But I bought it in Alaska--it is supposed to be a "folding ulu." Look up "ulu" and you'll see what they are. In the back middle of the collection I have a full size ulu.

Sacrifice about $40 and you can buy one online.

Nice! [Note to self: finally get around to building that forge.]

I also make knives--but I use stock removal methods. I grind primary bevels with a (decent quality, it's my dad's) bench grinder and my own (el cheapo) belt grinder.

I then finish them up with a dremel, and heat treat them in a test kiln. After attaching wood scales, I'm good to go.

Hello! Fourteen here. :)

I usually EDC spyderco's, benchmade's, or kershaw/ZT's. My biggest knife is a ZT 0170. as to what I have to share about knives...gah, I'm exited about the new blackwash skylines!

And in case your wondering, I don't actually use my knives, so no pic. I usually handle them with protective microfiber gloves smothered in anti bacterial jell and finish by sealing them in a airtight titanium box filled with innate argon gas. :p

Cheers,
Kirby

How cheap of you...I use Xenon...

Also, the box should not be titanium, but lead to protect from radiation...;)

leghog: please leave this thread. It is for young people, not those that don't like young people. Based on past posts, I started this thread to avoid conflict.

I don't think he was trying to state his dislike of us, he was only trying to give I some advice. And some pretty good advice at that. ;)
