This my good ladies and gentlemen is a 135 lb. Alaskan Malamute couch potato.

We got her at Malamute Rescue 11 years ago when she was 5 weeks old and her mother had been gassed for biting someone while she was nursing the pups. She weighed 4 lbs at the time......Malamutes howl like wolves and we didn't know that until our neighbors complained they thought a Werewolf moved into the neighborhood. She is VERY protective and Iv'e personally seen her snap a two inch thick Booda bone with one bite....I would NOT want to be bitten by her. She is a sweet dog and even our vet loves her. She can hear a bag of chips opening at 500 yards and you can see on this 9 foot couch she is almost 6 feet long head to tail. And make no mistake about it...THAT'S HER COUCH.....LOL

This is one of my favorite folksy threads. I wanted to bring it back up because it has such good karma, and because I wanted to share my new canine amigo...Boone.

This past September I had to let my old buddy Duke go off to the big duck hunt in the sky. (see post #5) I thought he was about 12 or so, but my vet said he thought he was about 14. He had a good long life, and was a friend to the end. There are no bad dogs...word.

Here's my new best buddy Boone. He's a yellow lab (cornbread all the way). I got him from the animal rescue agency here in town, and he is about a year old. When I first got him, about 2 months ago, he looked like he'd been plowed and harrowed by Allis Chalmers. He's comin' around now and made his current mission in life to disassemble my woodpile...it's all good cause I just pick it up and burn it. In the last month he's learned sit, laydown, kennel, and we're workin' on stay. Gotta love a good pet.

Show `em if ya got `em.

Here's Boonedog enjoying an osage orange in the backyard:

My three babies... Charlie, a little over 9 mo. old Puggle (pug and beagle), Mandy, the 12 year old pure hunting stock lab, and Kira, a 2 year old Smooth Collie bred from champion show dogs. It's a good lineup...

Charlie is all mine though. He's my constant companion, who cries when I leave and ignores everyone else when I'm in the room.

Myself, Charlie, and the future Mrs. Yutzy ;), from when he was 8 weeks old and we picked him up from a rescue house in Ohio. He is the product of a puppy mill, and was fortunate enough to be rescued along with his brothers and sisters. For such an awful start to life, he is full of energy and intelligence. Sometimes I think he's smarter than I am...

Here's my girl, Molly. She just turned three a couple days ago, and is 100 pounds of puppy love. She's the product of a champion line golden retrieve male (or so the owner claims), and an American white lab female. The first thing you notice about her is that she is tall. She's not fat at all, but a large, solidly built dog. I picked her up as a birthday present for my wife, then girlfriend, back in 2006. She was about 5 weeks old, give or take a day, and was definitely one of the larger in the litter.

The story goes that the owner of the father was watching his mother's lab while she was out of town. Well, the lab went into heat during ma's vacation, and the end result was a little of seven puppies: two males, five females. Most all of them ended up the same color as Molly, though one of the males popped out stark white. I'm not sure if he was albino or just really lightly colored.

We also have a little dog, a twenty five pound Corgi/Tibetan Spaniel mix named Sam. He's really my wife's dog, having picked him up from a shelter 6 years before I met the little lady. He's a good dog, but a bit of a wuss, and definitely a mama's boy. He also squeals if you touch his limbs wrong or try to put on his leash with anything more than a small tug of the collar.

Some great looking buddies in this thread.

I adopted Jonah from one of the pounds here when he was 8 weeks old. The next day I took him to the Vet where it was discovered that he had Parvo. Docs gave him an 20% chance of making it and told me if he made it through the first three days of treatment his chances would improve greatly. (Thus the name Jonah).

He then had to go through a month of IV's every other day as well as a diet of boiled chicken breasts.

Took this picture after his last treatment when the docs said that was done. The kid had a rough childhood, but now at 6 years and 120 lbs of solid muscle he is healthy.

One of my passions is working with people and officials from the counties in Metro Atlanta in establishing off leash parks and those efforts have been successful. We are in one of the parks that have been established just about every day or evening rain or shine. Even though both my knuckleheads have almost a fenced in acre in "their" back yard, they get a lot more exercise in those parks (as do I) and the benefits of socialization to people and other dogs are amazing.

Here he is at 12 weeks as soon as we got home from the Dr. the first day after his long ordeal with Parvo. It was the first time I was told it was OK to let him outside. That sad sickly expression is far gone replaced by a constant playfulness and very healthy appearance with a coat that is literally as shiny as a freshly washed black car.

I know I will get made fun of for this but I don't have a dog...instead I have 3 cats. I have always admired cats for their aloof independence rather than a dog's servitude plus if I want to take off for a few days I can do so with no worries. All of my cats are rescue cats btw...

Ford,

Good Karma fo sure!. Thanks for bringing back this old thread with your new best friend Boone. He's a keeper for sure!! .. And Sorry to hear about Duke too.. RIP :( My old Shepard Bucky(post#6) is gone now as well. I miss him a lot.

Great looking brewed of hounds and felines from the traditional folks here.

Keep em coming.

Here is a picture of our family dog and pretty much constant knife making companion. Her most important job in the shop is preparing the bone before cutting and jigging. Candi was named as we got her on Halloween day coming up on 6 years.

I have a couple of dogs. A yellow lab called Sargento that we adopted about 4 years ago. I don't have a photo of him but he pretty much looks like most yellow labs. A year or so later, we adopted a Blue Heeler mix that we called Shadow. If you look at him, you'll understand why.

I think it is sweet and wonderful that you have 3 cats!!

Kirby lives with 2 cats. We used to have 4.

Ford,

Congrats on your new buddy. I remember when Duke passed and I'm sure he's looking down happily on the two of you. Well done, brother!

"Smoky" sends his woof along as backup! ;)

We lost our hound dog in January. Broke our hearts. He was a road-rescue that found us 6 years ago. He had 6 years on this earth that he may not have had without our love and care.

Rebel, we love you and miss you.

Here is our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Rex (can anyone guess what dog was his namesake?). My wife says he snores louder than I do which is quite a feat.
