Your choice of 3" fixed blade

BRKT Woodland I have, a fine knife and well-made but it's not much to my liking.Too thick for a small knife and too easy to slip on that handle&onto that sharp blade....

RAT 3 in Ram's Horn in D2 I also have, but somehow something else is needed...maybe I have too many knives? No.

The Game Warden certainly interests, any sources where I can get one?(i.e. that ships outside the US and to the EU?) Thanks again.

Second vote for Blind Horse Knives' Small Workhorse.

Also check out their Tiger Knapp. Great value.

You can only get them from the secondary market now, since Busse no longer makes them (except for occasional customs). The exchange is the best place or you could always try the 'bay.

Or post in the WTB section - I'm sure there is someone willing to sell you one for a reasonable price.

Here is a fantastic knife with a 7.5cm (3" roughly) blade. It is my favourite fixed blade knife as it's so simple, purposeful and practical. in fact it is my favourite non-EDC as I can hardly go to the office with this on my belt!
Behold the Roselli R120 Grandfather Knife. Perfection from Finland.

Featuring a strong handforged carbon steel blade, it is to me a perfect utility knife.

It also exists with a traditional scandinavian sheath:

There is also a high end version with an extremely tough "ultra high carbon" blade:

There is one interesting alternative to the above that features a 12C27 stainless steel blade, it's the Brusletto Rognald, but you might find the blade a bit small at 7 cm. I have one on order and intend to later post a comparison between the two knives. It's another scandinavian beauty:

My Vote for the Rat-3 in 1095. For the price you just cant beat this knife and its durability is amazing. Mine stays sharp and is always with me very comfortably.

Here is a custom Bryan Breeden (3.5") O1 blade with osage handle.

I have to throw in the suggestion for the busse game warden (possibly active duty, I can't remember the specs but may be 3.5 in blade). It's to bad swamp rat isn't producing the swamp warden anymore that is a hell of a user also and very inexpensive considering it's heritage.

Friends, here's an update.

The Game Garden mesmerizes me but it's not cheap or easy to find one, a long term quest I think.

Bought a Buck Gen 5 (it is bigger than my original dimensions but so what:D)and find it an excellent small knife with great potential.

Muskratman knives are making me a Bushcraft puukko in Nat Canvas, really looking forward to that one as his work looks well good:thumbup:

Got hold of an BRKT Escort Boot knife (again a bit bigger but....) in Red Canvas. first class smaller knife there and the Red Canvas is reminiscent of the red colour on Moras. Sheath is not to my taste but their sheathes never are....

I really like a smaller knife, can't understand the appeal of lugging some 7" plus blade around, too bayonet like, that's a job for a hatchet in my view. Anybody else got some recent smaller knife acquisitions?

If you're willing to spend the money on a Busse or something similar, I'd suggest a J. Neilson B.U.K.(Basic Utility Knife). Hand-made and very well priced for a knife by a Master Bladesmith(cheaper than a Busse for price referance). I'll see if I can get a pick of mine up for you to see. There is a good review of the B.U.K. on British Blade Forums.

Just read that you picked up a couple knives so the advice is a bit late, but it might be a knife for future consideration:thumbup:

I know this sounds stupid but I have over 100 knives and in those knives I have at least 20 fixed blades. I love all of my fixed blade knives, some are more sentimental loves like my Pilots survival knife I carried in the Gulf War and my Buck 119 from my child hood years but for the size and money and everyday carrying comfort I just have to say that the Rat3 or RC3 knife is by far my favorite knife. Mine is a Rat3 in 1095 steel and I carry it everyday all day and I use it alot. It never fails and always stays sharp as a razor. Its a part of me just like my hand. You just cant go wrong with that knife for size, durability, and price IMO.

This site always throws a monkey wrench in my plans;) I was going to put a Rat 3 on my Christmas list but now I'm thinking I want a mud puppy.

W,

Which Gen5 did you get? I didn't get back to you last month, but I assume you've found that the cutting edge may measure a whopping 3.2". The B R Huntsman runs right at 3" - and fits the pocket well whether in the original included sheath or the KSF Pocket Sheath ($25) I had in my picture. If you are frugal and buy the Micarta handle Huntsman, you'll still likely spend a tad more than what the two Gen5s would sum to... perhaps enough more for lunch, too, if you aren't very hungry. I do like the Huntsman, having had it for a bit before the Gen5s, but that charcoal/420HC version Gen5, with it's horizontal belt sheath, gets a lot more use these days. The rosewood/brass/CPM154 is pretty, but it's knurled handle isn't comfortable to me.

For a ~3" blade, the Gen5 is just about perfect, it's handle size being more comfortable, too, than the Huntsman. The Busse GW is a beaut - I've seen & held one - but it's not available, except from the secondary market, and, like all Busses, it is pricey.

Stainz, I got the basic charcoal coloured one and I'm REALLY Pleased with it:thumbup: It can slice and food prep yet it's a compact but stout knife well up to multi tasks. Can't speak too highly of it and a bargain for about 50 USD.

My latest Barkie is the Escort Boot Knife and I'm enthusiastic about that too.Pity you can't horizontal carry that :D

flipe8 I'm interested in that knife you talk about (I may have bought a knife but it won't be the last...just got to keep the family in the dark about that:D) so if you could post pix that would be very useful thanks.
