If you were limited to just $15 for a single EDC folder, what would it be? It can be any size and any make as long as it's $15 or under. (And no trying to sneak in a Byrd--they're just over the limit.)

You will be expected to carry ONLY this knife for the next two years.

A few good SAK models can easily be found for $15 and under. Spartan, Tinker, Sportsman. Occasionally others like the Ranger, Farmer, Camper, and Hiker will also go for under that amount on ebay, and I mean NIB, not TSA confiscated or used knives.

If your knife budget for the next two years is only $15, try getting a part time job or something to improve your options. ;)

Vic Spartan would be my pick. There are also some pretty nice slipjoints from Steel Warrior and Rough Rider for under $15.

No sweat! Any of these would work fine for me.
Opinel #8 Garden knife @ $6.99
Opinel #8 Olive Wood handle @ $8.99
Boker Gaucho Sodbuster yellow handle @ $12.99
Victorinox Small Tinker @ $14.99
Vic Sportsman @ $14.99
Vic Alox Solo @ $14.99
Vic Alox Bantam @ $14.99
Vic Recruit @ $12.99
Vic Bantam @ $10.99
Vic Waiter @ $10.99
Vic Gardener @ $9.99
Vic Floral @ $6.99 (Gardener and Floral appear to be the same.)
The Opinels in #8 size fit my hand well and do a great job. The Boker Sodbuster fits me well, too, and is a great carbon steel folder for the money. I'm a virtual Swiss Army Knife addict, so there are many excellent choices in this price range to pick from. My usual source is www.eknifeworks.com. This is a good, sensible thread. Like I've said before, getting a good knife doesn't require one to spend a week's pay or more!

Those would be hard rules to live by but the Tinker would be a great choice. I could live pretty well with my Vic Explorer but thats over the limit.

My Cold Steel Twist Master with the 5" Carbon V drop point blade, or my other CS 5" Twist Master with the CV clip point blade. Back in the day they were only $6.99 on closeout! Even at full retail they were under $15.00.

For many years I carried the Victorinox Tinker SAK. I would have to hunt around to find one for $15.00. I have found a similar model except with a corkscrew instead of the philips head blade for around $8.00 at Big Lotts. I haven't found a Mercator Cat for under $19.95 plus shipping for quite awhile. I carried one of those for years as well, but it was in addition to carrying a Tinker.

If I only had $15 to spend, I would diligently watch the fliers of sporting goods stores and get a $25-$30 knife on sale.

I would buy a Kissing Crane 035 Sodbuster.

um.............wow..............

i can't imagine life without kershaw................
I got my scallion for like $11 (or was it $13) at Wal-Mart, NIB. It was on clearance. ;)
