Your Choice of a $15 EDC?

If you were limited to just $15 for a single EDC folder, what would it be? It can be any size and any make as long as it's $15 or under. (And no trying to sneak in a Byrd--they're just over the limit.)

You will be expected to carry ONLY this knife for the next two years.

Well I could take this question literally and say I'll spend nothing and pick from my current selection, and I'll still have $15. :) But I guess that's not in the "spirit" of things.

-Kershaw Jeeva Carabiner Tool Knife Stainless Steel NEW (KN-K1003) $10.79

-New Kershaw Lever Action Partially Serrated Knife. $13.79

-Kershaw D.W.O. Classic w/Red Handle $13.85

-Kershaw Black Butte Key Chain with Knife Blade and Scissors $11.85

um.............wow..............

i can't imagine life without kershaw................

Bookworm, I thought you said your a voracious reader? Should have read up on Froogle. :) Those were just a few of the ones I found

(And no trying to sneak in a Byrd--they're just over the limit.)

Really.

-Spyderco FireByrd $10. Now I have a knife and a lighter in one package.

-Spyderco Starling, FRN Handle, Plain $10

-Byrd Finch, Stainless Steel Handle, Serrated $12.82

-3-1/2" Partially Serrated Blade Byrd Pelican Folding Knife, Stainless Steel Handle $13.53

-Robin, Black FRN Handle, Plain $13.76

Seems like a whole flock of Byrds for under $15, so I guess the next thread will be "EDC under $10", Then "under $5".
I think if you are limited to only $15 for a knife, there are other things to worry about than finding a good knife, such as food, shelter clothing, etc.

You will be expected to carry ONLY this knife for the next two years.

Have fun using ONLY one blade for slicing bread, cutting meat, making fuzz sticks, the occasional branch removal for making a walking stick/shelter support/marshmallow roaster, making kindling. Easy enough to find a knife under $15, tougher to find one that will do it all. Probably why most of us spend more, and more often, and some of us EDC more than one at a time.

I'd love to see Yablanowitz reply to this thread. :D:D

I'd scrimp up the extra 5$ and get a Kershaw Vapor... Or scrounge the internet until I found one for 15$.

...the knife I got yesterday.

I actually got it for free from a buddy that went to the Shot Show. It's a Fenix KM3. Astoundingly good fit and finish, rock solid frame lock, ZERO blade play in any direction. Didn't come super sharp but the bevels are very even and got it to hair popping in 15 strokes on the sharpmaker.

$10 at fenixstore.com - look under "seasonal specials". They only have "limited supplies" and I literally plan to buy one for each and every family member and a few good friends

I'm actually going to review this knife soon - maybe later today.

Also, Fenix makes a sweet flashlight - also very reasonable. I recommend the P2D Q5, and/or the T1. Seriously good stuff.

I've bought Kabar Doziers and CRKT Mo'Skeeters for $12 on clearance sales, and many Vic SAKs for <$15.

My own personal choice would be the Smith & Wesson Extreme Ops Hawkbill, on sale for $9.99 at Smoky Mountain Knife Works.

I've been using one of those regularly, and the blade takes a wicked edge -- and what's more, it keeps it. I also have a shiny aluninum S&W with a plain edged polished blade that has exceeded all my expectations.

I don't think I'd ever be able to live with a SAK.

SAK Classic keyring knife, which I always have anyway, or a SAK Tinker.

I carry a Huntsman that I found - does that count since it's free?

thx - cpr

There are some Philippine made balisongs at the flea market that are great for under $15.00. I know guys who have been carrying them for more than two years. I have the Cold Steel Kudo and wound carry that and a SAK.

CS Kudu is good. Several Vics can be found that fit the bill. The EKA Compact is a nice slipjoint for $10. I've seen a couple Boker Magnum knives that were decent. I really like the Okapis, especially the Sailor's knife.

Assuming the cost of shipping is not included, I would order some CPM 154 form Alpha Knife Supply (you can get 11"x1" bar stock for $9), Grind it into a usable knife (I could get a nice little bowie out of that), and send it to Texas Knifemaker's Supply for heat treat ($5.50).

I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find scrap for pins to secure the handle (also made from scrap material).

And then I would make a sheath out of scrap leather.

A little do it yourself goes a long way.

just got a kabar drop point fixed blade in a leather drop in sheath at a local Ace for 9.99 (fits right into your front jeans pocket) also I got a buck bantam (should have gotten the larger model) for 13.00 . I got my CRKT hammond desert cruzer for 14.99 also I bought a Leatherman wave at a pawn shop for 16.00 but thats over the limit
