Your choice of traditional folder for woods

My current favourite is the Victorinox Pioneer. I carried it every day during the summer holiday.

I would carry a gränsfors axe. I have 6 of them byt the small wilderness axe is good for camping. For a fixed blade I do them myself byt I use carbon blades from well known smiths mostly. For a folder I would use a smaller slipjoint as a medium stockman. Another way to go is a regular trapper but the I see no need for a fixed blade as a sharp axe and a trappper cower all needs.

I try to get out for bushcraft practice at least one day a week, and I get out for overnights at least monthly but often more frequently.... I use alot of different knives.. depending on what "particular mood I'm in.... one of my favorite regular combos though is a large stockman pattern combined with a large working knife like a bowie or short machete.. Together they make most camp chores easy as pie. I keep a mora in my bag as backup as well.. But sometimes it doesn;t even see the light of day.

I like a copperhead pattern for the slipjoint. I think your Bark River fixed blade would be good. There are so many different combinations out there that covering them all is near impossible.

Your fixed blade should be beefy enough for heavier cutting and the axe/hatchet for the chopping. The folder would then not have to be a 10 ounce wonder like that Gerber folding sporstman III I posted a couple weeks ago; anything in the large stockman class would be plenty.

I'll say it again, like in most of my other posts, a Stockman of some type is always in my pocket. I especially like the ones that are about 4" closed.
