Your Crowning Achievement for 2006 Please post pictures

Well, it's really bad, particularly compared to the beauties people are showing off here, but... it's my first knife, so, it's my crowning achievement for 2006.

I learned a lot making it, for one... I need more tools ! This was forged out of an old simmonds file, and then hand sanded. I used a 6" grinder to speed up getting the fire scale off faster, and for putting a rough polished finish on it, but i really need a belt grinder so i can grind and sand =)

In addition I made the angle of the edge a bit too wide so while it is sharp, it's not very good for cutting. All in all, a very good piece for learning, but I've got a very long ways to go =)

I am proud to share this with everyone.

As well you should be! That's an awesome piece! (Of course, you knew already how much of a fan of your work I am :) ) I like the nice, clean, simple look of this one and the story makes it that much better.

Everybody here is just showcasing some excellent work. For me, the crowning glory of my year was just recently getting the hot work area running in the new shop and starting to make pattern welded steel.

I really haven't gotten many knives made (hoping to change that in 2007!), but my best work so far would have to be this one:

The handle geometry leaves something to be desired, but I'm getting a little better with everything I do...

[/IMG] Cannot compete with what I've seen here, but this is mine. This was a slow year for me. I spent too much time gun building.

I built this fighter for my son and presented it to him at his Air Force

graduation. One very fine day for this metal masher.

14 1/2" with a big hamon.

Have a great holiday, Fred

I would have to say the one I was most proud of was the ivory handled bowie I made for the Tom Krien invitational hog hunt.

VERY nice for a guy who is allegedly slacking off in the knife department
:D Where is Geneva? Is it close to Gainesville?

I was arguing with someone the other day on a less friendly part of the forum (one where guys love factory knives, etc, and think Striders are the be-all, end-all, I guess...lol) The conversation turned to funky "art" and "fantasy" knives (which I have issues with at times) and I commented that the one thing i noticed about the ABS guys is that when they made knives, no matter how pretty or fancily embellished....or EXPENSIVE.... the knife is, generally speaking, it could still be used a a highly effective cutting tool in a pinch. I rest my case:D Gorgeous knife........contrasted with one UGLY critter..lol

P.S. If you actually dispacted that porcine varmint with the knife, I am certainly relieved that next years event will not be renamed the Craig Camerer Memorial Pig Roast!!!!!

Well, that was just after it got set up and before it got used. I have a steel pile now and some dirt on the floor :) I DO try to sweep up after every couple of forging sessions though.

This one is at the top of the heap for me in 2006. I call it "Midnight", and the blade is Bertie Rietveld's Dragonskin damascus. Scales are O-1 engraved and inlaid in 24K gold by Jim Small. The whole package was hot blued after the engraving was finished.
