How about one of thoose orange faced Doxa dive watches like Dirk Pitt in the Clive Cussler novels !
I have yet to find one anywhere......anybody have a pic or link? How about one for sale?

How about a Blancpain 50 Fathoms. I am sure I need one to replace my Submariner. This watch has a eight day perpetual rotor!

Never heard of the Lange before, but it is a SWEET watch! Wow...

My dream watch (for now, anyway) is a TAG Heuer Kirium Ti - but I'd have to lose that rubber strap, and get something in metal.

Favorite watches....hmmmm. I've been wearing a Rolex Explorer II (no roll over problems or unexplained tire failures) for ten years and I love it. A few months ago I bought myself a new Tutima Air Force Chronograph TL (titanium case and bracelet) but I hardly ever wear the thing because I like my Rolex too much. No I don't want to sell the Tutima..it is nice to wear when I fly.

Seiko's Wrist Holo 2065.

It's not out yet but it will come out.

It is named after the movie The Final Fantasy.

It's a combination of a watch, a 100 meter radius scanning scope of any lifeform, a global positioning system, a photo scanner and several other (yet unrevealed) options.

Now that's what I call a WATCH!!

Rolex Explorer 2 - same functionality as the GMT Master 2, but without the flashy bezal.

Regards,

Ed

here's one of my dream watches (along with a few other of my favorite things), a titanium Ventura V-matic LOGA.

and my other "dream" watch, Sinn 103UTC Ti AR. this one is also titanium and filled with Argon gas for superior waterproofness.

:)

Patrick, that LCC looks familiar! :D

As to watches, My tastes are fairly simple. I'd like:

  • *Omega Seamaster Automatic, either the 2254.50.00 or the 2531.80.00 for an occasional carry
*Omega Seamaster Automatic from 1964 (birthyear) for special occasions
*FORTIS Flieger Automatic like the one RGray mentioned, but the Leather band (595.10.41) or better yet, the Kit for dress

Until then, I'll stick with my "common" Luminox with the Red face and my Tag.

I'd still wear my Luminox as my "EDW".

Hi John,

Seems like we have similar taste in stuff! :D

My daily wear is a stainless Seamaster:

My "thrasher" is a mb Microtec S3001; known in the U.S. as a Luminox:

I've been looking far and wide for one of these; an IWC/Porsche Design Titanium Chronograph:

Anyone have any leads for where I can find one new or a used one in excellent shape? (I know that they haven't been made in a few years)

[Edited to fix broken image links]

Patrick, the Argon gas is not in the watch to increase the waterproof ness but to prevent the oxidation of the used oils and therefore increase the service intervals.

Well, I did it.

I ordered my dream watch today.

A Fortis Flieger model 595.10.41M for $335 with free second day shipping.

congrats rick, and welcome to the world of non-batteried watches.

fortis makes some of the best swiss EDW timepieces outthere for the money.

the fortis alarm chrono is on my pipe-dream list too...

Thanks Patrick,

This is my first automatic watch and I'm not sure what to expect.

I did a lot of reading up on it and narrowed it down to a Fortis or a Zeno.

Should I never take it off my wrist?

I'm afraid I'm going to wind it too tight.

How much will the time vary?

Do I need a winding machine?

rick,

many auto of self winding watches have a "power reserve" where the watch stores the kinetic engery produced by movement, about 36 hours or so. once the reserve is reached the mechansim simply by passes any extra "winding" within its complex sets of directional gears.

there is no danger whatsoever from "wearing" the watch too much and over winding it from kinetics.

in fact the only "danger" is not wearing it enough. it is recommended that you do not leave the watch sitting still for over a few months as the springs get too relaxed and the oil inside settles and begins to "clump". note that this is still relatively minor and these things with the valjoux or ETA (the 2 major swiss movement manufacturers) movements are pretty bomber.

watch winders are great for those who own several automatic watches, as they maintain lube consistancy and work the springs.

quality winders cost about the same as your watch did. then again, i think this watch could be the beginning of yet another addiction. ;)most automatic watches are good to +or- 3 per day.

while quartz watches will always be more pin point accurate, there is that little problem of the batteries....

automatic watches are the way to go, in my book. a lifetime of self reliant service.

you may want to get it "cleaned" after a few years at a quality watch repair or service center, but that's about all they will ever need.

btw, i found a legit source for the alarm chrono at 40% off the retail. still waay too much for me afford right now, but 2800 is much better than 4700.00.

someday...

enjoy your new fortis, you're going to love it.
