Your dream watch

Many of you have Luminox tritium watches. No one has mentioned Marathon watches. They are Swiss made, QUARTZ and current military contract watches. They also have tritium vials. They glow for 10+ years.

The Navigator model looks like this:

.

Another very good AUTOMATIC divers watch is made by another swiss firm of Ollech and Wajs. They used to be our US military contract watch company in the 60's and 70's. They are not now because their watches are expensive to manufacture and the Military would rather get the Navigator above since it is plastic and costs a lot less to manufacture/purchase.
This O&W Divers watch is styled just like the Rolex Submariner. It does not have tritium.

It looks like this:

There is one company out here in CA that sells high-tech products to the Gov't. One of the owners is/was a watch jeweler for 15+ years. He put a highbrid watch together for me consisting of parts of both the above watches. It is the O&W case and movement and the Navigators face and hands with tritium. Then he puts on a custom made domed crystal to finish it off. It looks real quality on the wrist too. Waterproof to 200ft.

It looks like this:

I really enjoy this watch and it has become my EDC watch. It is not a thrasher watch but is not too expensive to replace if you heavily damaged it. One quarter the price of an Omega Seamaster Pro! And...tritium hands and dial. It has been keeping excellent time, +1 second per day! The guys at CountyComm are really great and go out of there way to satisfy you.

Anyone interested in any of the above can inquire with CountyComm Government Products Group. They are the sole US distributor of Marathon watches and carry the O&W. The link to their website is:

PS...My dream watch is a Rolex Submariner

Commanderfan,
Based on your reccommendation I ordered a O&W Automatic from county comm. The phone service was great. Can't wait to get the watch. Thank you for the post.

OK, here is truly my DREAM watch: the Patek Philippe Sky Moon Tourbillon.

ppsmt3.jpg

It is the world's MOST complicated automatic wristwatch. Translation = it is the world's greatest attempt at mechanical complication and perfection known to-date in a timepiece.

It features:

- perpetual calendar
- retrograde date display
- minute repeater
- toubillon (wow!)
- display of sideral time (wow!)
- depiction of nocturnal sky with motion of stars
- orbit of the moon
- moon phases

Time functions on one side (white dial), and nocturnal sky on the other (blue dial). 660+ individual parts, and measures 42.8mm x 16.26mm.

Oh by the way, due to the cost and labor involved, only 2 are made per year; and it is only available from the Patek Philippe store on the Rue du Rhone in Geneva, Switzerland.

Well, the thread did say dream watch...

Hi guys:

I know most of here on Bladeforums are "gearheads", and most of us are aware of the reputation of "Rolex" watches. But caveat emptor, in the sense that everything Rolex is not what it seems.

Among the watch cognescenti, there is an increasing opinion that the "starter" level Rolex watches are increasingly overpriced and of poor quality-for-the-money. Remember, this is not a blanket condemnation of Rolex products, as the Daytona or President is a fine timepiece by almost anyone's standards--but some models are simply not "good buys".

So, for those of you who have mentioned aspiring towards a Rolex Explorer or the like, you OWE it to yourself to read the following as expressed by respected watch writer Walt Odets of the Rolex Explorer:

For the person for whom accuracy of rate in a mechanical watch is the only criterion in buying a watch, and for whom value-for-the-dollar is of little concern, the Explorer might be a choice. In the current watch market, the poor quality of the movement--and relatively good quality of the case and dial--suggests that this watch should retail in the $600 to $800 range. To my tastes, a quartz-controlled watch would provide the functionality of this watch, do it even better, do it with better reliability, do it at an appropriate purchase price, do it at much lower routine maintenance costs, and, in most cases, provide a better piece of craftsmanship in the bargain. Obviously, for the person who wants "a Rolex" for reasons unrelated to the watch itself, this watch might be a choice.

Don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but I thought that you folks deserved to be fully informed on the subject. Remember that Rolex has to crank out tens of thousands of just this model alone per year! Hard to maintain a QC-level consistent with expectations-for-the-price at that production level...know what I mean?

My Dream watch is the Omega Seamaster GMT like this one with a black dial, but they don't make it yet. :(

Lenny-

Nice IWC.

I also oftentimes wear an IWC, its an IWC DaVinci SL Chronograph. It's nice to know there are other IWC fans out there in BF-land.

Well I'm not really a watch guy but I bought this a few years ago and wore it for a while then sort of put it away, but now I'm wearing it again. I actually bought it because I liked the combination of the blue band and yellow face :)
It's a Citizen Promaster Divers thingy.. No I've never been scuba diving, sh!t, I can barely even swim !! But the watch tells time !!
That's all I ask :D

RGRAY,

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your watch? I haven't seen them much less than retail:(

Hello, IWC has always been a favorite with me. I thought that they made the most complicated watch in the world, but I guess from what another post said it has been surpassed by a Patek Phillipe recently. As the most complicated watch in the world!! I don't know........Can anybody straighten me out on this issue...

Later, JC

Gadgetman7, I was going to E-mail you, but I see I can't.

Just bought my dream watch: Rolex Seadweller.
The ultimate no-nonsens tool watch IMHO.

By the way, I just saw two Seadwellers on the wrists of makers / dealers at the NY custom knife show. Always knew that knifenuts have good taste in watches.
