Your Favorite GEC

How do you like the new barlow on the lower right? I've got one of those coming soon. :D

I literally just opened the package and starting snaping pics. It's the single blade Wharncliffe, and easily came the sharpest of any of my GECs. Don't know if they have been listening to us about their sharpness, or if it's just easier to put a good edge on a wharnie.

It's also darn near flush in the half stop position, and I've never seen that on a factory slippie. Smallest knife I own, by a good bit, and might take a little getting used to, but so far I like it.

Nice bunch of knives Coyote and Moonwilson.

Oh man, I WISH they were mine. The pics are from Moonwilson and black mamba - I think you may have mistaken a reply by me to black mamba as having been pics of my knives. ;)

I will let you know once my first one gets here. I ordered a Muskrat Fur Taker in burnt stag.

Gorgeous knives! Can someone please clarify for me - is burnt stag actually jigged bone?

Coyote, here are some pics of my barlow. It was an EDC, so only $50 shipped! The seller couldn't find anything wrong with it and neither can I, unless the top pin is set a little deep.

This one shows how close the half stop is to being flush (less than a 16th) and in, not sticking out.

Nice straight blade, too.

Please post yours when you get a chance. mamba

Very nice, mamba! Just checked the mail for mine - didn't come today.:grumpy:

I'll TRY to post pics when mine arrives - I think I can get them uploaded to BF; just not sure about my picture taking ability when it comes to knives - I've never taken any pics of knives before.

Raining,
I will throw out an answer, until someone wiser comes along. There is a difference between horn or antler and bone. stag is essentially deer antler, and burnt stag is samber stag antler that has been torched for color/effect.

+1 Someone here has been to the factory and seen the process of making burnt stag. I don't remember who. It apparently is torched to give it some color, as it does not have sufficient color in the natural state to be attractive and sold as "genuine" stag. GEC calls bone jigged to look like stag; Stag bone, or antique stag bone. Neither look much like stag to my eye.

Better than case in my limited experience as to fit and finish. About on par with Queen in terms of sharpness out of the box. And, that one is burnt stag.

Thank you for your response. Now, if sharpness in on par with Queen, a GEC will need a lot of sharpening. It's a shame that some manufacturers deliver knives so blunt they can't cut.

Well, I've gotten some that needed to be touched up on a stone, but I haven't seen one GEC that was actually "blunt". It is important to note that I also havent gotten a GEC with coarse ragged edge like is often found on Case knives.

I haven't seen GEC even elude to stag, as in "stag bone" or "bone stag". They have called theirs Carved Pumpkin or Brimstone Bone. All the stag they use is india stag (there is a whole other discussion on if it has to be from sambar or chital deer); only the premium pieces are set aside to make the "Genuine Stag". On the Genuine Stag they want to keep all the natural beauty, so they do not torch or pin a shield on them. The rest go thru as "Burnt Stag" and are torched in the final processes.

GEC is not very cryptic on their descriptions, if it is bone it will say bone. If it is stag it will say either burnt or genuine stag. I have seen Bear and others use Bone Stag or Stag Bone; but you can rest assured if it has "bone" anywhere in the name / description, that is just what it is.

A guy I work with just got the little barlow with a single clip blade and bacote. Nice little knife.

Mike, I do have a #235108L which is labeled on the tube "Burnt CSB" for Burnt Carved Stag Bone. It is beautiful, but nobody who has seen both would confuse it with stag.

Forgot all about the CSB series. You are right as rain.
