Your Favorite Knives Under 20$

Here's the photo. I'm gonna take it down some more so it's closer to the one with the logo still on it. It's a lot more comfortable already though, so I stopped for now. The handle feels great after a little sanding.

Swedish Mora for the fixed blade.

Winchester 3" liner lock for the folders. Opinels are nice, but the handle swelling is annoying.

At Target Stores you can get a Victorinox Spartan and Classic 2 knife combo pack for under $20.

By the way, Smokey Mountain has CRKT Rollocks in plain edge, black or blue scales for $7.99. These are the old Rollocks with AUS6 steel, newer Rollocks have AUS4. I ordered a black one a few days ago. I've had a blue one for about a year. Great little knives with an interesting twist on folding and locking.

I'd have to say the M-Tech teflon-coated folder, take your pick. Maxam also has a good one called the SKLARGE, with a whopping 5-inch blade that shaves hair off me arms. I just don't want any more Gerbers. I've had it with them and the garbage they try to sell as knives. You can stab, but don't try to cut. Nope, the M-Techs I've actually carried on occasion. They're not going to win the Knife of the Year Award, but they'll do in a pinch.

Other M-Techs

3 out of the new Smoky Mountain catalog -

the CRKT M-16 (4" closed size) for $19.99.
AUS-8A, black titanium nitride blade, aluminum handles...great deal IMO

also the CRKT Nealy Pesh-Kabz (kinda wierd name but nice knife) for $17.99.

and the Ryan Plan B fixed blade for $11.99. This fixed blade version is a very good deal for that price IMO. I have one I keep in the car. A nice piece of AUS-6M and a good fitting sheath.

I know some of you dislike gerber but the gerber fatty is a great knife for 20 bucks.

Another vote for a Mora - Eriksson 545, specifically. Since they're only $10 from Ragnar, you can buy two for your $20 .... and I can all but guarantee that once you have one, you'll want another.

You mean the Gator? If so, I agree with you. One of the Gerbers that's - AFAIK - made in the USA.
Have had one for about 10 years and while I don't use it anymore, I just sorta like having it around.

Yeah it really is a great little knife for 20 bucks. My dad has been using the one i buoght him for about a month, and while he doesn't abuse it he does use it a lot.

I agree Mark123, the Camillus Arc Lite neck knife is a great little knife. I just wish I could have gotten one of the Arc Lite's AG Russell had made up in D2 steel. Unfortunately, I found out about them too late and they have no plans to order another batch in D2.

My favorite knife around $20 bucks is the Spyderco Byrd Meadowlark with G-10 scales. Solid knife with a very nice fit and finish.(actually it's a hair over $20. The G-10 Byrd is $21.55 @ NGK.)

Been trying to trade for a Byrd knife to no avail (Cannot buy knives right now, only trade, hence the comment towards Vas). Shame they don't offer those in a flatground blade, which I strongly prefer for woodworking.

CS extra large Twistmaster in Bowie and Drop point Special Projects closeour price. The CS Hudson Bay was a great bargain and made for great camp knives and you can't beat the CS Bushmasters for bang for the buck and the Kershaw Splinter at just over your price point for $24.00 at Big 5.

I know this doesn't add anything to the thread, but:

Opinels (I have a #6) and any good Moras (I have a K.J. Eriksson Mora #1).

They are simple, traditional, classy, and great cutters.

At the $20 mark, I like the small Kershaw Vapor.

The Vapor is a great little knife!

I can't believe I forgot about the Byrd knives. Excellent knives for the money. A few weeks ago a friend of my wife's need a pocket for her job as an engineer. I picked out a few knives to give her. She chose the Raven model of the Byrd line up.

Can't forget the Schrade Sharpfinger. I've used the hell out of mine in various welding shops, light prying, opening boxes, and removing industrial staples. The handle doesn't get ruined by welding sparks, and despite being drenched in sweat and rainwater on a few occasions, the blade really doesn't rust like I expected it would. Very easy to re-sharpen, and on the one occasion I had to whip it out to discourage a mugger, it had the right look to get him away from me - QUICKLY.

The Cold Steel Bushman comes to mind, and Kellam knives sells a 3" puuko with a red plastic handle and a forged blade for $15.00
