Your favorite pivot lube?

I am a retired gunsmith and have been using Marvel air tool oil on blades and guns for years. It will not evaporate away or turn to gummy sticky varnish like most petroleum based oils. It is essentailly a mineral oil and contains no silicone. It's cheap and available almost everywhere. Before I started using air tool oil and I used Breakfree CLP on everything for many years. Then Safariland bought the name and re formulated it - now it no longer meets the current Mil spec. - and it is overpriced like everything else on the gun counter. It also makes a very good honing oil that won't clog up your stones.

Break Free CLP still works for me. I smile every time I break one of my firearms down and don't see any rust.

Gunny Glide Graphene Lubricant

Is it expensive, yes,,,,, does it improve open/close action,,,, absolutely.
Over the past 35 years, I have used all of the above mentioned lubs and some not include in the breakdown.
Both in firearms and knives of all lock designs.
Gunny Glide is applied with a small drop from the needle applicator included with the bottle design. It will last for many years.
If you are lubing a simple slip joint,,,, anything will be fine,, if it is a modern folder with PB washers and lock up,,,, the graphene will coat the wear surfaces and result in improved smoothness and less friction.

FK
Is it food safe?

I have a bottle of nano oil that's about 6 years old...I use it because I still have some

   You are correct, a lot cheaper than most of the other" Specialist " lubes and oils, even over here, and that is saying something. šŸ˜

Marvel Air Tool Oil is definitely not food safe. It contains ingredients such as chlorobenzenes that are probable carcinogens. However inexpensive or however well it works, do you want to regularly handle carcinogenic oil? Do you want it riding around in your pocket near reproductive organs all day?

Obviously, risk needs to be considered in context. It might not be a huge deal in all cases but as someone smart once told me: why lean into the punch?

There are much safer options. For instance, I use Lubriplate FMO 350-AW, which is designed for kitchen and food prep machinery. While it does cost a little more at $8.95 per 4oz bottle, that is still less than a tenth the price of KPL per volume.

I use a tiny drop of air tool oil to lube the pivots - I do not coat blades with it so I'm not too worried about ingesting any.
