Guys, some beautiful knives. Keep em coming.
Hey Bastid, that's a gorgeous Huffman. He's on my short list of "affordable" custom slipjoints to buy. Do you mind me asking how much it cost?
Here's my favorite, a large Stockman from Mooremaker. Gorgeous Burnt Orange smooth bone, Carbon steel blades that are easy to sharpen, great walk and talk on each blade with no blade wiggle. I love it.

92...thanks for posting my pic (yes, I know I need to get the Gold Mem. so I can post too).

Yep...that is definitely one of my favs, lately. Terry Davis Amber Stag Stockmen (posted by 92degrees 2nd one up from the bottom on the 1st page)

The stag is some of the best I have seen on a slipjoint and with sunken joints and rounded handle it carries great.

BTW...Gus, great pics, love the Reese DR's. Great slips everyone.

Unknown: that SAK is stunning.

Thanks Bastid.

That was done for me by KJ Lewis of South Carolina who was featured in Ken Warner's "Knives XX" book (probably 92 or 93) - unforunately he no longer does this work.

The "stag" is actually ivory micarta scored/scorched to look like premium stag - the ones with the tools inlet into the scales had to have simpler patterning - but the Waiter model could have deeper and more complex pattern because it didn't have the toothpick and tweezers inletted.

I carry a Schrade stockman built on the older 897 serpentine pattern. It has nice stag scales, and feels great in the hand. I got it from our resident expert, lt632ret, over in the Schrade Forum. It feels like a little bit of Americana in my pocket.

Since November I've been carrying a T. Bose/Case Dogleg Jack. This is the best slipjoint I've ever had. I may change my edc every so often but this knife always rides in my left pocket. The ATS-34 blades are an ease to sharpen and the stag handle just makes for a classy looking slipjoint.

Currently, it's a saddlehorn trapper by J.B. Moore:

OK, one more.

Another recent acquisition. And, so far, the most pleasant surprise of the year!

I knew nothing about the maker, Joe Prince, and had no idea what to expect when it arrived. When I opened the package, the first word out of my mouth was: "Wow!"

Joe sent me this email, describing the blade:

"...it has a stainless steel powder damascus blade. It is called Damasteel and is made from RWL34 and PMC27. The steels are close in chemistry to ATS34 AND A 300 SERIES AUSTENITIC stainless. The heat treat is similar to ATS34. The steel is made in sweden. The liners are 416 stainless."

The handles are stainless steel, inlaid with abalone. (and beautifully inlaid, I might add!) As you can see, every surface is highly polished.

A little jewel that I am proud to add to my sub-collection of slipjoints.

Thanks, Joe. (and thanks, Julie)

Ok, it's been many hours since the last pretty picture! Lets keep em coming!! :p (Damn, I love my little Buck, but a custom is a CUSTOM) :D

You guys need to drop into the Traditional forum every once in a while. Among other things, we get to see some awesome stuff from JpN (Bose mostly) and Gregg has a fantastic collection of Cripple Creeks that will knock your socks off.

Nifrand also has a very nice collection. That reminds me I need a new camera bad, there is a Newton, Kios and a couple of Rogers that I want to take some shots of.

UnknownVT - is Alvin still kicking around? I haven't been on rec.knives in a long time, ever since my one way of getting access changed to a pay system. Alvin was the one who convinced me to try out the Case Cr-V about 10 years ago. He even sent me a stockman to try out, one that he had replaced the blades with his own (old files with which he redid the heat treat, but they were still very hard).

After seeing these fantistic customs, my collection seems pitiful. My current favorite carry is a Queen large stockman, carved stag bone.

Yes, he's still one of the most active posters on rec.knives.

I used test for genuine bone handles using a bone magnet -
except I kept finding -
Alvin's head stuck to it....... :p :D :D

BTW - you can get access to rec.knives via the web, and post, using groups.google.com -
