Your Favorite Stockmen?

I love my 66 Calf Ropers as they are but yours is just perfect looking! I really like the blades lowered down like that and want to try that on at least one of mine. Did it make your springs sit low now while the knife is closed? I need to find a write up on how this is done as I really don't want to practice on my GEC's lol. Maybe I could practice on a Rough Rider or something.

I don't want to throw the discussion to far off, but I'll risk one more post with a flood of pics. The spring sits a tiny bit lower sure, but it's only noticeable upon close inspection. The pictures aren't the greatest but you can kind of tell. I filed down the kicks with this gerber's file and cleaned it up with some sandpaper.

I have several that I am fond of but I believe my favorite is my little Case 3318. Honorable mention goes to my 2000 Case 6375 with chestnut Bone scales with CV blades.

Buck 301 for me, preferably in yellow. It's robustly manufactured, and sports a beefy selection of nice, stainless blades, that'll hold, and take a great edge.

for the money , you just can't beat the buck 301 , built like a tank , but like one person said already , the springs are soft , but i don't really care , of all the stockmans i have and have seen in this size , this one is the most stout , not real crazy about the black plastic handles but they do hold up , and at this price you can use the hell out of it and not worry about it - i throw mine in my pocket with whatever else is in there , keys and all.

I want to think everyone for their replys. Now I am more confussed than every. No just kidding. I carried a Boker as a kid since my granddad sold them in his country store. He would ask me ever so often if I had got a knife out of the display case,ha ha. May try another Boker. If their stockmen has the f and f that their wintergreen copperhead does, it would be a heck of a knife. Wonder what steel Boker uses in their knives?

If I Remember Correctly, their carbon is 1075 and the stainless is a European alloy similar to 440A.

I've always wanted one of those. A real classy stockman.

A Schrade Walden 881, the jigged Delrin version of the 8OT. This is my favorite user stockman. Same 1095 high carbon steel.

Oh my.
I think I'm in love.

I'm right in there with Jeff' and Hal, my favorite production stockman's are the 3 7/8" 1095 Moore Maker 5301, the ATS-34 Schatt and Morgan #043109, and the carbon steel Schrade Walden 8OT.

Now because of you guy I am $49 poorer. I said maybe I should bid on a Schrade 80T on ebay. I just looked on ebay and found out I won the bidding. It is suppose to be NIB. Wonder what they cost when they came out, I bet nothing close to this,ha ha. It had better be as good as you all say or I will give it away on here.

$5.00 for a bone handled 8OT when they came out in 1961. $37.95 when they went out of business in 2004. IMHO, the older ones had better steel than the ones that came out in the 1990's and later.

Ray, the Old Timer 8OT is a darn good knife, and one of my favorites. The other stockman that I like is the Buck 307.

Based on what's in my pocket every single day, I'd have to say this USA Schrade 8OT is my favorite (love the steel in these):

My li'l bug friend seems to like it too... :D

David, is that a pet? Or do those live in the wild in your area?

I have had several of the older Schrade 8OT's, and they are GREAT working knives. Also, I had a really good older Ka-Bar stockman that was excellent. To the OP: I think your best bet is to look on "the big auction site" for something that catches your eye.

We usually see one or two of these (Vinegaroons) every summer, here at our place in NM. They are pretty common here, or in any desert environment. This particular one was a 'rescue' (;)) from our neighbor's yard. She was concerned about her dogs getting hold of it, so we collected it and then released it in our yard, where this pic was taken. We've also 'rescued' three snakes from her place, two of them inside her house, for the same reason. :D

My Buck 303 is an excellent knife, and I like how Buck positions the sheepsfoot blade on its own end of the knife. But if I had to be honest about a favorite...GEC is it.

I've got a Queen Woodsman that I like a lot, but my Henckels 4 blade stockman gets more pocket time. The extra thin clip blade is really useful!
