Well Thanksgiving's next week indicating 2008 will soon be coming to a close.

Though there's mixed feelings as to how 2008 has fared from a financial perspective I doubt that anyone will disagree we've seen some outstanding
custom knives produced this year. So lets look towards the more positive aspects of custom knives for 2008.

Collectors, show us your favorites that you added to your collections this year.

Makers, show us your personnel favorites that you made this year.

I will start with my two favorites for 2008:

As always, thank you for your participation.

I don't have pictures, but a few of my favorites were Sean McIntire's MS dagger because he dared to be a bit different, the big L6 chopper that Jason Knight had at Blade, a HUGE multi-bar damascus Scagelesque chopper that Gudy Van Poppel delivered to a customer at Gembloux and the recent Russ Andrews/Don Hanson collaboration. 2008 was, IMO, an excellent year, particularly in the forged blade world, so bring em on, guys!!:D

Hi Joe.
I didn't intend this for favorites in general, but favorites that collectors acquired in 2008 and/or maker's favorite knives that they made in 2008.

So Joe, let me put you on the spot and ask you to post your favorite of the knives you completed in 2008.

That's easy. The two stag bowies that I took to Belgium. Not perfect, but my best work so far and very warmly received by my fellow smiths over there. They are currently vacationing in Connecticut at Mr. Cooper's place, so I won't have decent pics for a little while as Coop is, as we say down here, up to his armpits in alligators with work from the New York show:D

Well I'm looking forward to that as you make good knives, but I have never seen a good picture of one. ;) :D :)

LOL......No, you have never seen ME take a good picture of one. Mssrs. Cooper and Hoffman did a very nice job on a couple of my earlier pieces.;)

Hey Joe, Coop should be able to get those out before the NY show.
Come on Coop, get to work ;)
He is doing the best he can as usual, but I think that he was already covered up before factoring in what he will have to do for the show. It will be well worth the wait, mind you:thumbup:

My favorite collection addition for 08 is my JR Cook hunter with Paul Long leather that was delivered at Fisk Micro Show.

I'm not really qualified to say what the best is, but I want to contribute, so I went around and collected a bunch of photos of knives that I really like that have turned up in here and elsewhere recently. Definitely limited to the memory of the forum without too much searching.

Lorien,

Hi Joe.
I didn't intend this for favorites in general, but favorites that collectors acquired in 2008 and/or maker's favorite knives that they made in 2008.

I believe that Kevin was looking for individual collectors and makers favorite knives from 2008, not just the best pictures off the net.

That being said, my 2 favorites from this year are:

4 1/4" JD Smith MS damascus auto with mammoth, mokume and filework. It is not new but new to me:

I got this 9" Craig Camerer Slim Pickens in a Tux damascus fighter with mammoth and SS & Bronze guard at this years Jerry Fisk Microshow.

I hate to repeat myself so quickly in a thread, but these just gotta be my two favorites for 2008. Incidentally, Kevin, that is one gorgeous Fisk!

Love that Camerer, Jim!

Oops! Sorry about that, my mistake. Got a little excited there.
