Your Favorites of 2008?

Josh,

Great knives. The Seales and the two dogbones are my favorites.

Bruce,

Great stuff.

Here are some of my favorites this year. I hope next year is even better.

Bruce,

I have now seen about five of your amazing knife/guns.

I was wondering, are your beautiful designs based on actual
antique models or do you free-design around the concept?

How many such pieces have you created over the years?

All the best,

Takes a lot to get me to post at the moment, but I would just like to say that the work of Bruce Bump and Josh Smith in this thread is absolutely superb.

Hi Stephen. I agree, Bruce and Josh's work is outstanding.
Just wondering why it takes a lot to get you to post?
I for one miss your posts.

My favorite knife purchase this year is by BF member, ib24vu. It's a small hunter made with D2 steel and an Afzelia Xelay handle. The reason it is my favorite is because it just feels great in my hand. It's the perfect fit for my grip. I was a little skeptical at first before buying it as it looks like a large handle but once I held it in my hand it was as though it was made for me personally. The craftsmanship of this knife is just great too. It may not be as fancy looking as most of the knives that I've seen posted in this thread but I thought I'd share my favorite of 2008.

Thankyou David,

I dont base any of them around existing antique guns. I do however buy every antique gun book I come across and stare at the pages. :) I have to start from scratch on each one, kinda like re-inventing the wheel.

I have finished eight so far and have two in the works. So far they have been black powder and muzzleloading but someday I would like to make a cartridge pistol.

I have an order for a cap and ball pistol and matching bowie that I'm looking forward to making.

Both added to my collection this year. (together with a couple of other knives... well 44 in total actually!:D:p)

I Picked Up This Robert Parrish Bowie a few months back. It's the 2nd one I've owned-the 1st having a 9.25 inch blade and was sold or traded to L.Robertson.The blade length on my 2nd Parrish bowie is
8.75 inches from Tip to Guard, otherwise it's exactly the same as the 1st one I owned. Also it didn't come with a sheath so I'm having Dave Smith make a Frog style sheath for it.I didn't think I'd ever get another R.Parrish bowie, but I got Real Lucky & I'm a Happy Camper.

This thread is not necessarily about fancy. If a knife is worthy of being someone's favorite, it's worthy of this thread.

Looks like a very well made stout knife that will give it's owner years of good service.
