Your First Spyderco

A Techno is my first, and so far only, spydie. I got it in trade, and took the deal because it has the least amount of thumb-ramp. I really (really!) like this knife and it is in my EDC rotation. That said, I still am not fanatical about it enough to want another one, not enough to overlook the large hump on the spine.

If this one were damaged or lost, I would absolutely replace it!

My very first Spyderco knife was a delica my parents bought me in 1993. I was 15 and a law enforcement explorer in San Diego County, California. It was an excellent knife. Unfortunately I no longer have it and cannot remember what ended up happening to it. I remember the integral plastic clip got snagged and broke off. I sent it in to Spyderco and they attached a metal clip and sent it back to me. I've been a loyal Spyderco fan ever since. I currently EDC a grey Endura 4 FFG.

BTW, I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.

Welcome to the Forum! Those are some pretty fine spydercos, and a classic first one

Dragonfly II ZDP-189

Bought it following the recommendations from many review sites and youtube videos. Really gorgeous knife!

My first Spyderco...wasn't a Spyderco, it was one of those gas-station ripoffs of the Endura. I beat the living hell out of it, including spine whacking, and it held up. Couldn't cut worth a damn though. Gave it to my brother. When I learned better, my first real Spyderco was a blue 93mm Rescue (serrated, with the front inch plain edge). Still have it, still use it.

A Police SE in G-2 stainless from quite a few years ago. I dropped it on concrete and broke the point, sent it back with a request to re-profile the point rather than replace the blade. It came back better IMHO.

My first was an Economy - Stainless Steel, AUS-6 PE blade. Carried that knife for a long time as my only knife; then in about 2000 I purchased an Endura stainless SE AUS-6.

I then lost my way, and stopped purchasing knives altogether. A large part of the reason was the lack of a "hands on" dealer close by, and I really like to hold a knife prior to purchasing.

Due to certain events in my life, I decided back in October of this year to start purchasing knives again. I have time to do returns if something doesn't work out, and most places are reasonable these days about online purchasing and returns. For me, "knives" = Spyderco - at least for now.

My first Sydie was a stainless Police. I think it was 1992? It was also my first non-Swiss Army knife. It set me down a long, expensive, enjoyable path. I wish I still had it but I lost it after many years of use.

My first was a Howard Viele C42S I bought in 1997 when the model initially came out. This knife was my EDC until 2003 and served me very well; it still has considerable life left in it, but is no longer carried. At the same time I bought another Spyderco which I gave to my wife -- a Jess Horn C38P. My wife caried this with her in a nylon pouch but never used it (she now carries a different Spyderco model). I still have both of these knives ... along with ~30 more Spydercos in the collection that I've happily added over the past 20 years.
