Your First Spyderco

Call me simple, but I am new to Spyderco and my first will be either an Endura or a Delica either one in FFG. After that will be a Manix 2 in S90V if I can afford it.

I'd go s110v over the s90. Better all around steel and can probably be found for cheaper since its regular production.

Where were you guys buying those knives in 80's and even the early 90's? I guess I'm wondering if an average Joe could find a Spyderco knife then or you had to go to shows or specialty shops.

Both of those 93-94 Enduras were purchased at the Post Exchange (PX) on Fort Campbell, KY, home of the 101st Airborne Division. Both of those were used many times to clear double and triple feeds from my M60 MG.

My first was a black Delica 4, haven't been able to get rid of the Spyder bug since.

PM 2 in black blade, Camo. Destroyed it because I took a grinder to it. I feel like a douche and miss it.

I go wayyyyy back like a few others....
My first was a CO5 STANDARD

Thennn I moved in reverse and bought a CO1- WORKER.... That was a little while ago

I just picked up my first Spyderco about a week ago. Thought it fitting since these were still available that I should try it out. So far I really like it, but the action is pretty stiff.

My first was Cricket FRN, I guess it was year 2000-ish...I lost it eventualy, it was a sad, sad day...:(

A stainless steel handled plain edged Spyderco Harpy. Probably from around '95-'97ish. My oldest brother had 2 of them and gave 1 each to me and my other brother. Mines in pieces right now waiting on some custom work, but hope to get it up and running again.

Light green Endura 3. Saber grind back then. Loved that knife. Friend lost that knife like an idiot.

RIP greenozz

A few years ago I decided to try carrying a " Modern " folder after years of Traditionals .
Coming from a Traditional background where multiple blades are common it made sense to me to try and find a multi-bladed Modern knife .

So after a lot of searching and deliberation I purchased this .

Well I'm sad to say that it was the worst knife purchase I've ever made , and with a heavy and somewhat annoyed heart it got sold on very quickly ( I have since purchased upwards of twenty five Spyderco's and have not sold another since that first one ) .
Nothing about the knife felt right .
The weight , the in-hand ergonomics , the twin backlock indents that always had me pushing the wrong one , the super fine needle pointed plain blade , the grey G10 that got dirty by just looking at it , the list goes on .

To be honest it put a bad taste in my mouth about Spyderco .
But then about a year later a friend lent me a Delica while on holiday , and the rest as they say is history .
I now love Spyderco knives ,but just not my first one .

Blue FRN Endura, person selling it stated it was a Delica; didn't matter I got it in the mail, I was hooked regardless :)

I stil have it!

My first was the endura with the built in glock tool. Regrettably, I let it go [emoji17]

Bought an Endura from the base PX in 1991. Deployed to Desert Storm shortly afterward. Pretty much my EDC until I lost in on July 4th, 2004. I know the exact date because that is the day I moved into my current home. I stupidly left it on the bumper of my truck while heading back to the old house for a fresh round of stuff to move. I circled back for it but never found it. I hope some deserving teenager found it and eventually developed a love for Spydercos. It was this loss that got me into collecting as I had to replace it. Downhill since.

Same as op, I was never really into Spyderco's had some benchmades and asst others. I decided to try out a PM2 because of all the rave reviews and that was it, I was in. Big collection now and I never leave the house without a spyder in my pocket.

I had a longstanding bias against Spyderco...as far as I know, it was only based on aesthetics (that hole!).
Eventually, I decided that I should see for myself, and started researching the brand. I ended up with a Gayle Bradley. I used it a bit on the day I received it, then put it in my desk. To this day, I want to like that knife; and I think I know the modifications that would at least give it a shot at being carried...but I haven't gotten around to making them.
