Your Jacket?

Did I miss something? what happened to danner and redwing? or am I just reading that wrong?

It's a couple of degrees below freezing here so the Carhartt is back on:

Great jacket, if the weather turns wet i'll be switching to my Montane:

If you go to Danners site and look around only about 1/3 of the models are made in the US. The price reflects that, which is fine. I'll pay whatever for quality.
Redwings, I believe, are ALL made in the land of chopsticks.
I bought a pair of Danner snake boots. Junk.
I have a pair of the land of cotton made Rainforest boots that are top notch !

Shagmaster I got from TAD Gear

I generally don't wear a dedicated winter jacket.

Instead, I wear a high-quality rain jacket from MEC, with a bunch of layers underneath for warmth. My favourite combination for winter is a Patagonia base layer, polar fleece mid-layer, wool sweater, and my rain jacket on top. This is warm enough for -30 C weather and I can add or remove layers as needed.

All the best,

- Mike

My ECWCS bdu cold weather parka that was issued to my mom, was too big on her, she got out of the gaurd in '97 and she didn't turn it in, so she gave it to me. It's snug with layering, but I can move my arms around pretty well, and could do camping chores in them. It's not too warm on it's own, but it keeps the snow and slush out. With a t-shirt and sweater I'm good for temps abover 29F but any lower and I think a thermal swapped with the t-shirt would work for pretty colder temps, but since I moved back to the twin cities I'm not really sure how it will tackle 0 below temps.

If its freezing or snowing and know im gonna be spending alot of my time standing still i don my North Face McMurdo Parka, though it has to be real cold or ill die of heatstroke in it. Have never used it hiking as ive never been places so cold that they warranted this type of parka.

For regular cold days i use a Millet fleece thats windproof and has an excellent close fit. Has very nice details such as pockets placed high so theyre still accesible when wearing a hipbelt, zippers under the armpits to ventilate, and a little flap that covers the entire lenght of the front-zipper so a hard wind wont seep through.

And for rainweather i use a North Face 2-layer Goretex jacket. Cant remember the model, bought this thing ages ago and it has served me well. I think it was one of TNF's cheapest models but real tough and hard-wearing. Its time for another one now.

Got some other windproof softshells and fleece jackets that i use on a daily basis too.

Right now its a lightweight canvas Columbia ROC jacket with a fleece vest underneath....As it gets colder Ill layer a bit more....Merino baselayer, shirt, fleece jacket, outer shell.... At work its layers under my ambulance issued Carhart jacket

I like Tad Gears outerwear, though....

Im more of a layers kinda guy....Just never feel comfortable in a thick parka....

i have a North Face fleece jacket that i wear, as well as a Patagonia windproof fleece jacket..:) both are plenty warm...

Cabelas fleece with Windstopper. If it gets wet or colder, I have a shell to put over the outside. If colder yet, I have Under Armor tops & bottom and poly long underwear.

I would like to get some GOOD wool blankets and have an anorak made like Rick (Magnussen, right spelling I hope) posted about last year. Sorry, on my phone so I don't know how to link that thread.

Typically a Carharrt Detroit, sized up one time for layering, and in deference to being short and thick. I love it, but once it's wet, it's wet.

I just got all high speed and stuff, and got a Eddie Bauer "365 Weatheredge" shell that will probably be mostly for casual wear. Took it to my parents' yesterday, and will get it back for Christmas, so I don't actually have it.
Unlike the guy in the pic, I don't actually have hair, either:foot:

Also just got a Marmot Oracle shell for walking/hiking/camping, since it's light and breathable, and should be plenty for Alabama winter with some Capilene and a fleece jacket or vest.

It's a windy 40F right now, and I'm about to go for a walk in a Marmot Gravity jacket.

Felt kind of weird buying these, having always been old-fashioned about my dress. I hadn't bought a jacket in years, and Lord help me, I got another pair of the Marmot Scree softshell pants along with the Oracle jacket, too.
In another thread, I called all this Marmot stuff my "mall assault gear". Hahaha, even bought an UnderArmour Arctic beanie, too(it's freaking awesome!). I keep looking in the mirror and laughing at myself. It sure is comfortable, though:D
