Your Jacket?

I don't know the model number, but I have a great Columbia parka, single piece. I have worn it in the middle of a bad snowstorm, and was snug as a bug in a rug. It comes down to my mid thigh, and I can wear a couple more layers under it. Unfortunately, the hood is absolute crap, but I usually have a ski cap.

I have gotten good use out of a plaid Walmart Faded Glory coat, it is very warm and great for working outside in the winter. Other than the dog shredding a section of a sleeve, it is very durable. It has a nice sweatshirt hood on it too.

I'm also more of a layering-as-needed guy as well, and currently my hardshell is a Mountain Hardwear Goretex(ProShell) and my softshell is a MH Syncros. I also have an older Burton down jacket for some colder temps.

An N-3B (I believe) military snorkel parka! I don't have any pics of myself with it on, but here's an old pic I took while on a winter hike with my little sister. :D

It's one of the old ones that had real coyote fur on the hood. Found it in spectacular shape in a thrift store for $30

I prefer to layer. Currently using North Face Windwall windproof fleece with North Face Deluge 3 layer Gore Tex Pro Shell jacket.

I layer as well, depending on the weather and temp, I wear Pendleton, Patagonia, Carhartt, or Cabelas.
All work well.

Don't want to make this political, but I am not sure what you mean about companies "whoring out".
It sounds like you are talking about companies that make their clothes out side the US...
With all due respect, Carhartt makes a fair amount of its clothes in Mexico, and many other places in the world, just like Danner and many other companies, and has for a while.
I know, I have worn their gear for many years and when the shifted, back in the mid 90's I believe, I was sad, but they still make good gear, so I still wear it.

I think it is less about where a product is made and more about if it is well made and lasts, and if their factory treats their employees right. But that is just my opinion…

I think there are very few large companies that don't "whore out" anymore.

(And I wear Danner boots, which I purchase at the factory in Portland)

My Buffalo Belay jacket is the one I wear when braving the elements to reach my local bar now !!!!:D:thumbup:

Goretex® shell and I think polar fleece liner, military issued.

Love the pockets.

dude I saw that in the last catalogue, and just posted about how much I like how their jackets look. How is it?

The Filson Double Mac is a great coat. Very warm. I layer underneath it for additional warmth when it's really cold (sometimes with a Marmot softshell). One aspect I like is that is breaths well--no condensation to chill you when you stop. The flip side is that it also is not wind proof. The wool is tight and since there are two layers it can stand up to a pretty good blow, but when -10 deg winds are cutting across open ground you ca feel it. Also not waterproof, but if it's raining it's probably too warm to wear the Filson Double Mac anyway.

It's not light! And it won't pack down into a little envelope. But if you like traditional fabrics that are time tested and quiet, this is a great coat. Tough too. I've had mine for 5-6 years now and it looks like new. I can't imagine not having one.

I have a couple TNF and MH shells with liners but my warmest coat is a cheap 3-season Bass Pro Shop coat. It has a attached hood and the entire inside of the coat's body and hood is fleece lined along with the outer hand pockets. The sleeves have nylon inside with some insulation. $19 ea. on sale 5 years ago and they were all "Tall" sized. I bought 5 and am on my last one this year :(. I wear it for work and play.
The fleece lining all the way up the hood along with a zipper thatzips up to my nose is what I like. No wind gets in. Covers the hips and is cut a little longer in the back.

Hey rotte. I agree with everything you say about the double mac. Try wearing a Filson wool vest under it. You will not believe the difference, even in strong wind or rain.

Typically a Carharrt Detroit, sized up one time for layering, and in deference to being short and thick. I love it, but once it's wet, it's wet.

I just got all high speed and stuff, and got a Eddie Bauer "365 Weatheredge" shell that will probably be mostly for casual wear. Took it to my parents' yesterday, and will get it back for Christmas, so I don't actually have it.
Unlike the guy in the pic, I don't actually have hair, either:foot:

Also just got a Marmot Oracle shell for walking/hiking/camping, since it's light and breathable, and should be plenty for Alabama winter with some Capilene and a fleece jacket or vest.

It's a windy 40F right now, and I'm about to go for a walk in a Marmot Gravity jacket.

Felt kind of weird buying these, having always been old-fashioned about my dress. I hadn't bought a jacket in years, and Lord help me, I got another pair of the Marmot Scree softshell pants along with the Oracle jacket, too.
In another thread, I called all this Marmot stuff my "mall assault gear". Hahaha, even bought an UnderArmour Arctic beanie, too(it's freaking awesome!). I keep looking in the mirror and laughing at myself. It sure is comfortable, though:D

What part of Al. you in?, if you don't mind me asking.
