I only wish Busses had been around when I was in the service. I remember buying a new Gerber Mark II for about $40, which was a lot of money back then. Some thought I was foolish to pay so much for a knife. I broke the tip off that knife thowing it (bad idea). Busses are much tougher than that Gerber was. Busses are high end, but they are priced similar to other high end knives. For those soldiers who just want a basic but super tough combat knife, Scrap Yard knives are available at very reasonable prices.

Pete we would love to help you. Please fill out this information sheet first.

I used to think no knife was worth it but till i got ahold of some Bussekin knives i quickly changed my mind. Just like with anything else, you get what you pay for, and they are well worth the price.

BTW i'm a soldier with a family and bills and find it very easy and affordable to purchase a quality knife.

Also they work just fine in a combat environment.;)

There are deals to be had. This was $82 including shipping. LIFETIME WARRANTY !!!

i started buying busses while still in college . . . .
currently I am living off E-3 pay and still buying Busses. it's all about what you do with your money. busses are worth it

Good on ya son!!! Thanks for your service by the way. When I was overseas back in the 70's I saved enough money when I came back in 79 to buy a 77-SS El Camino outright, so lack of money just because someone is in the service, HA don't give me that bull. I had money enough to still drink myself stupid, chase girls, and eat everything I wanted in Europe. Money:rolleyes:...

Well that's how you know it's worth it, when the demand exceeds the supply and that's probably why you want it, cause no everyone has one or can get all they want.

I think I'm lower middle class, but a huge lifelong knifenut.

If you want quality in what you love you will find a way to obtain it. I don't buy much else at all, and my knives are worth more than my truck with over 200,000 miles. Thats just one example of how tight I've been my whole life just so I can afford nice knives and guns.

If your not a HUGE knifenut that demands top quaity I'm sure a Cold Steel or something along those lines will suit you well. Nothing wrong with them, but there certainly not a Busse.

May I also suggest Esee for you. Not a Busse, but still a great knife at a much lower price.

BTW- Busse's are VERY easy to find, so not sure how you came up with them beeing hard to find???

C'mon guys.

Let's make sure that we have provided the OP knowledge about his concerns before we accuse him of trolling.

Might just be a case of not knowing and making statements before one does.

Pete, you are right, Busse knives are a little hard to obtain. It's not like Amazon, with endless choices and immediate shipping. Busse, Swamp Rat, and ScrapYard have a different business model. Not better, not worse, but different.

We need to freely admit that it can be confusing and frustrating for new guys. They learn about Bussekin knives somewhere in the interwebs, find their way here, and it's like ... WTF  where's that (insert model name here) I saw on that thread? Where's the order page, the model listings?

The good news for you, Pete, is that that may be the best time EVER to find your knife. Busse has really stepped up production in the last few years, and between the Exchange here and eBay, there are plenty of knives to buy at some of the best prices we have seen in years.

So, if you would like to tone down your frustration and attitude, take a second chance to make a first impression, you just might find people are willing to help you figure out which of the many Bussekin blades would be the right one for you. Tell us what role the knife will play, what you want it to do, and how much you can spend, and we will try to help.

I'm kinda thinking the Op is still a teenager! When I was buying knives at that age I though 50 bucks was very expensive too !! Anyone with an average salary and a passion for sharpened steel can justify a purchase of a few hundred clams !!!

It can be hard to figure out where to get them, but easy once you do.

Don't make the mistake of thinking they are not carried in combat. Busse makes direct orders for military.

When they have left overs of those, they are offered to us. Some of them are "secret" and if you are lucky enough to score one, often sight un seen, you agree to never post a picture, or description.

As to cost. I don't whine about the cost of quality fire arms, or (enter your choice of high quality item here).

Busse, Scrapyard, and SwampRat are worth what they charge!

On a side note ESSE/RAT Cutlery are also great value for the money with great warranty. Their handles are not as comfortable and well shaped to my hands, but great value.

Now that you know about them, and sources........save some pennies, and jump when they offer something you want!

Good luck.

I don't write in often and I'm not going to knock pete120 but you say you can't find these blades? Really? you found this forum didn't you?

You know, I think this is a good thread, it shows what we all have in common whether we like users or safe keepers, whether it be a Scrap Yard or Busse, whether we agree with one another or not. We all stand up with a solid front showing what we believe in. I think that's really great of us, it's not just a community but a family!

I used to think this way. way back in the 90s, I heard from my dentist about a knife he had read about in SOF magazine called Busse. I cold steels, Kabars, AL Mars, SOG, etc... and all were decent knives. then I got a badger attack and a Steel heart II. a whopping $210, which was a monster price compared to many other knives at the time that "looked nicer" But when I got to the boonies and started making shelters, traps, rafts, clearing camp sites, I realized there was something special about "Busse" I used the SHII for years without thinking much about it. Then when the ASH1 came out. I ended up ordering 10 of them... I probably have too many now, but at the same time I thought, "these are the most incredible knives I've ever owned" Then I began to compare. I will pay $1,600 for a good DSA Fal and LWRC M6A2 because I know they will function when the chips are down and mine and my family's lives may depend on them. I"ll pay $239 for a pair of Danner Arcadia boots because your feet are one of the most important parts of your "weapon platform" You get the idea. A knife that will ALWAYS be able to handle what is thrown at it? What would you price it? I'm a teacher, don't make that much money, but what I buy I am confident in the quality of it. a soldier,Marine, also spend their money on what they believe will function the best. whether it be a new car when they get back from deployment, and an engagement ring for the fiance' "my Marine Son" OR that blade to put on your side for deployment, we prioritize what is important to us. I'm sure there are cheaper rifles, boots and knives out there; but..

I couldn't afford my first Busse, a used SH-E. I hadn't even sipped the Kool-Aid at that time I just understood that it was a tough knife the right size for field use. As a Land Surveyor I used it to dig holes around fence posts, cut wire fencing, cut brush, chop limbs and lumber and throw at trees. It never flinched. I've used other knives in the field but many of them ended up as junk after a few months of true hard use. pete120, save up and get a Busse or a Busse-kin blade and go beat the crap out of it doing the things you need to do with a knife and then come back here with your opinion.

Sometimes you need to pay for quality......DANNER BOOTS:thumbup: they are the Busse of the boot world.... to sum it up WHEN YOU DEPEND ON YOUR EQUIPMENT MONEY IS SECONDARY:thumbup:

Very wise words.:thumbup: Please heed them. We were all new once, and most probably thought similar thoughts at least until we got one in hand...then it became clear. Busse knives are top shelf quality. :)
