Your most impressive knife?

I’m most impressed by my Les George’s. It blows my mind how smooth the action of his knives are. I haven’t seen or felt anything that gets a similar performance out of phosphor bronze washers as he somehow does. They fly open as if they’re on bearings and they’re smoother than most of my knives on bearings. It’s like having the smoothness of bearings and the hydraulic feel of washers. He’s accomplishing something that as far as I know, no one else is. The most underrated maker in my book!

The most impressive knife I own is one built on a dare by Ken Erickson.

One day while we were having one of our many phone conversations, Ken was telling me that he was looking for a new challenge and was uncertain as to what to pursue.

I pulled out a vintage Remington catalog and sent him an image of a button lock Norfolk whittler and told him that if it was a challenge he was looking for, this would be it.

I completely forgot about having thrown down the gauntlet and some months later when we hooked up at the Blade Show, he presented me with the knife you see here. Built entirely via his own ingenuity...with no plans, schematics, drawings or blueprints.

To say that I was blown away would be to put it mildly. Ken's true genius was forever revealed by his ability to create this knife from a simple image sent from a catalog. It is beautiful, functional, mechanically perfect and a great representation of the artist who built it.
Elliot still one of the most impressive custom knives I have ever seen. The work is incredible.

I have been collecting Howard Hitchmough's knives for 40 years. Here is one of my favourites........ :)

When I saw this thread, I immediately thought about my CRK one pieces. Out of those, I selected this one:

This is a South African made and is a solid piece of D2 steel with perfect grinds!

So those are machined from a single piece of steel? No joint between blade and handle?

Hmm.

Many of my knives impress me for one reason or another.

The JD Ellis slip joint or the Oesser from when he was still making them in his garage, both for expert craftsmanship. Same with the Mozolic bowie.

The zT 0999 for expert manufacturing and design.

The Buck Hunter and Ranger for standing the test of time and still being relevant even today.

So many, but looking at the definition of impressive, I have to say the Busse War Train Fusion custom shop satin or the FMV14 fusion custom shop.

People generally ask why etc, but invariably have a huge grin when handling either one.20220404_124754.jpg

I’m torn between my Grayman Satus and my TSF Gorgon.
The Satu for its size, design, raw cutting power, ease of maintenance and, for its size, ease of pocket carry.
The Gorgon for much of the same but I also like the cam stop pin that allows you to adjust for lock wear.

I carry these two more than anything else. Medford M48 and the WE mini Buster.

The Mini Buster is WE’s best ever in my opinion! I carry it almost daily. It is such a good knife I have 2 of them!! The M48 is impressive for sure. After deciding to actually carry it….it was better! It is so slicey and easy to carry!

My most impressive knife has nothing to do with looks, or geography or anything else. It’s entirely in the utility of it.

My Good Knife Co, Michigan Utility Knives as designed by bikerector bikerector are my most impressive. I have one built by David Mary David Mary and another by JK Knives JK Knives . They are impressive to me because I have used them in bushcrafting, wood processing, food prep, general household chores, yard/landscaping etc… and the design just plain works. Amazingly versatile design.
