Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

Opinel 12 fresh out of the workbench. I slimmed the handle slightly making it more oval, made a easy opening notch, burned the handle and sandpapered the soot away. Then I bathed the whole thing in oil and put beeswax on the handle. I also straightened the clip point slightly.

Will Powers, these curved half stones work great on curved blades.

Very cool! I’ve never seen that tang stamp before.

Needham is a great name you don’t hear anymore. I had a great great uncle named Needham Greene Flowers. There are many stories about him. Very charismatic guy. Died young in a cotton gin accident (severed arm). Ever since, his middle name has gotten passed down in our family. I carry the middle name “Greene” for my generation.

There you go. I like to give random facts whether you Needham or not 🤓.

I had never seen the name before myself.
Sounds like a great character Jon. Nice that you carry part of the name on. My first girlfriend's last name was Greene.😁

I been busy with other things and haven't been doing much with knives for a while, but I'm coming back around. I received couple of new Rough Riders this week, both in the 30th anniversary series with the black appaloosa bone covers. The bone on both knives is quite nice.

The first is what they call the 'Capitol Intern'. Other than the secondary blade, it's a nice knife. The pull on the secondary is about an 8 due mostly to a strong spring and the nail nick being really close to the pivot point. This wouldn't be too bad except that the nail nick itself is too shallow to get a good grip, making it very difficult to open. Since I like the rest of it, I'm think of doing a blade delete on it.

The second is a Doctor's knife. It has only one blade (no spatula) and is a barehead style which is a little unusual for a Doctor's knife.

Case Swell Center Jack in Tru Sharp and "Kentucky Bluegrass" bone. There is more "blue" than "grass" in the bone, but the overall effect is not uncomely. Extremely good fit and finish. Zero gaps. Both springs are dead nuts flat opened and closed. The clip spring is exactly flat at the half stop. The pen spring I can just barely catch with a fingernail at the half stop.
A chunky little fella, which is not an unhappy thing to have in a three finger knife. Disappears in the watch pocket, for sure.
Came sharp, but the edge angle was fairly acute, felt like 22.5 DPS or sharper. I changed it to 20DPS.

Edited to add:
Somebody asked me about the color, and I went back to the web store from which I purchased it. The listing said
SMALL SWELL CENTER JACK - DEEP CANYON JIG HUNTER GREEN BONE

So that's on me and my aging memory.

Given various vendor pics, I would not have expected that color.

Like the shield on those, may have to check for other models, good looking examples.

My phone camera likes to make the colors pop. To my eye the blue is almost black; and the green is a tad paler. But still, it has good looking bone covers.
