Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

Thanks, Buzz! I bought it from the widow of a recently deceased member of a different forum. I love the knife more than I can say but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a bittersweet acquisition.

It’s an admirable pickup, considering the circumstances. It helps keep the tradition alive, collecting and caring for these old knives, and sometimes that’s all we can do. I sometimes wonder what will happen to my knives when I finally go; who will carry on the tradition.

Found a 2nd ATS34 TToothpick discounted to 90 bucks at ACK that I couldn't pass up.

I have some catching up to do on posting on this thread, but this is both the “oldest” new addition and the one I was carrying with me today.

Was initially kind of disappointed with the wall and talk on this knife, but it has become much better over time and use. Still not perfect, but certainly acceptable now.
There is something satisfying about the broad edge bevel at the tip, even if it is not at all practical 😂

I like the design Mitch. A plus is that you can take it apart easily, to clean it.

Really like these Steel series form JWK. Want to be able to grab one from the Gateway series to compare when they are next available.

And this is my first dogleg. I didn’t get the appeal until I felt it in my hand and used the blade. It will not the be the last dogleg I own I’m sure of it now 😂

This CK Edition Gunstock/Recoil manufactured by Fox Knives arrived in the afternoon mail a couple days ago- Thursday. Really a nice knife. Mike knifeswapper knifeswapper of Collector Knives really hit it out of the park with these knives. It's a perfect knife. No faults, gaps, cracks, drips, runs, or errors. Sharp out of the box with no touchup needed. Transition between the bolsters and Bocote wood covers is very smooth.

I just love my Fox Recoil. Very nice.

Received these today: a Kershaw Culpepper in copper, and a RoseCraft Cane Creek in rosewood. Both are very nice.

Heads up Porch: I have a second RC Cane Creek in rosewood inbound on Wednesday, as I got them for great prices. I’m going to decide which one I like better and put the other up here for a GAW after I receive it (sometime after Wednesday, work schedule dictating), so keep an eye out if that might be of interest to you!

Sweet pair.

Where is the steel type marked?

I have sweet toothpick from 2000 w/o the steel marked, but the seller, Vintage Knives, told me it was ATS34 because it is marked 2000 and all S&M knives in that series marked 2000 are ATS34. However, I have other S&M knives not from 2000 that are marked in the blade etch ATS34. On the defunct knifeforums I was told that almost all 2000 S&M are ATS34, but some toothpicks are 420HC but the steel is not marked. Personally I think my knife is ATS 34 because I believe Billy at Vintage Knives 🙂 and I use the knife and it “performs” like ATS34.

I paid $125 for mine in 2002. It’s a great kitchen knife especially for making small surface cuts in a lamb roast for sting in garlic.

Thanks !

These are marked ATS34 on the back of the blades. I also read that if they are F&W marked, they are always ATS34.

I have a 2002 Sleeveboard coming in that is Peter's heat-treated D2 ("PH-D2"). That was the year when they switched.

Prices are ramping up, it's rare to find them around $100, more like > $250 these days.

Roland.

My latest barlow showed up today. I hesitated to get one because I prefer barlows without shields and stamped or plain bolsters. But I really wanted a bonestag. So I hoped I would still like it. And it is a resounding yes. I would definitely prefer it without the shield. And if Case ever makes a bonestag without a shield, hint, hint, I will get it. But they at least used a small shield. But the bonestag looks perfect to me. I prefer my bonestag dark. And I put a request with Shepherd Hills to check it for fit and finish and mentioned I preferred darker bonestag. The knife definitely was taken out of the paper wrapping before. So I will assume they checked it for me. Either way it is a winner. Fit and finish if good enough for me. The blade is slightly to the pile side. But it is not close to rubbing. So I don't care. There is the tiniest amount of blade wobble. But it is so tiny, I don't care. If it gets worse, I will tighten it up.
