I am a single blade guy most days. I carry a Lambfoot and a Barlow mostly but I’ve been branching out and have found the 29 pattern to be a favorite due to the good will of a fellow Porch member. This is my most recent foray in multi blade. What a joy the 48 is. Love it. Great blades and that blood wood is cool cool. And…hotdog.

A Buck 112 Ranger Vintage Tribute knife. :D

I just couldn't resist any longer. When Buck is on the ball, they are easily one of my favorite knife companies... And I really like the history behind 440C. Unfortunately, it seems they are off their game more often than not lately. Well, that definitely isn't the case with this example! Absolutely fantastic fit and finish! I couldn't be more pleased with the knife... I could do without the badging I suppose, but that's easy enough to take care of. And boy it's a thick one with everything all squared. I'm thinking a nice, rear, horizontal sheath might be just the ticket for this baby. :)

Do you know what kind of wood the peanut is? It looks a lot like the wood on this small gunstock. I don't have the box for this, so I'm not sure what it is. My current best guess is maple. It can be hard to tell with Case since they dye so much of their wood. Its a 1989.

Good morning...it was listed as maple burl and yours does look similar. Beautiful gunstock.
Just double checked...autumn maple burl and yours came up the same.

I did another excellent trade with Congy (I have bought, sold and traded many times with him) and so this one arrived today.
I swapped my Remington bullet 1988 with him as I didnt realy get on with the Muskrat blade, though it was a nice knife.

As the postman didnt ring the bell he just left a card I had to cycle over and collect it from the sorting office.
Then I went down to the lock to have a little cycling exercise, open the packet and have a coffee siting outside a old traditional pub.
Sadly no sunshine, it was a gloomy English day that we all love over here 😍

I took my SAK with me to open the very well packed parcel,it felt like Christmas 🤣

Its much smaller than the GEC 44, the Winchesters main blade is the same size as the 44s pen blade.
It feels excellent quality, has a lovely comfortable grip and is very light.

This is what attracted me to it as much as anything, from a google search, though it seems the blades are stainless not carbon.

Any other info would be appreciated, did his work here inspire him to start GEC?

"This Winchester 2851 Gunstock Jack Knife was made in the USA by Queen on contract for Bluegrass Cutlery in 1988.- Two high carbon steel blades: Spear and pen- Master blade etch: WINCHESTER over TRADE MARK- Dark Brown jigged bone handles- Nickel silver bolsters and shield- Brass pins and liners- 3 inches closedListing as used because it has storage wear, i.e. brass liners and pins are tarnished. Wear to the box. See photos.Never used, carried, or sharpened.Bluegrass Cutlery obtained a license from the Olin Corporation (which owns the Winchester brand) to produce these Winchester knives. Bluegrass contracted with Queen Cutlery to make the knives. Bill Howard, current owner of Great Eastern Cutlery, oversaw the production of the Winchester knives when he worked at Queen. Not surprising that these are high quality knives. In my opinion, they are some of the best factory production pocket knives produced in the last 30 years".

On the way back I came across this van please note the correct word is flammable as on the back of the van not inflammable. 😅

When I got home I gave it a wash and brush up and a little oil.

Edit...Looking at my photos I have to say I really like the look of my old Wenger SAK.

Johnnythefox Johnnythefox The Winchester Black Box series of knives that first appeared 1987 and went on into the 90s are all carbon steel knives.

Here's my much liked Stockman from 1987 with patination proof...

If you get a chance to get hold of some of the other numerous patterns they made then jump on it, they're really beautiful both as users and exhibits. Large range of patterns (see the Black Box thread for ideas...) As for Bill H. he was certainly closely involved with these and other Queen Cutlery projects, when he left to set up GEC with Bill Daniels in 2006 they were both clearly influenced by their time at Queen, bringing their skills and vision to the new company. Daniels, ironically left GEC and returned to buy a share in Queen Cutlery. This venture did not go as had been hoped and Queen closed down in 2018. I think it fair to say that some of the patterns made by Queen as Black Box Winchester knives have influenced GEC design, the 29, 33, 59 spring to mind but these are interpretations NOT copies as GEC has been a great reviver of 'lost' or extinct patterns in its own right.

Enjoy your knives, Will

Well John, I sure hope that you have good insurance on the car! I feel better knowing that you have a couple of two wheelers to get out and about on. 😃

Courtesy of DocJekl DocJekl who sent these wonderful Bokers to me and Joy as a welcome back gesture and encouragement. Joy immediately claimed the stockman, which was fine with me. I mean I did start a whole thread dedicated to lockbacks lol
🤣👍
Although I took a bit of a hiatus I hadn't forgotten what an awesome place the Porch is.

I'm so happy that she loves her Stockman. I did some research and knew that you had a thing for lockbacks, so the choice for yours was logical.

I actually own and have posted pics of both of those knives and I enjoy them (the look, feel and quality), so I went out and bought a set of new ones just for the two of you. I kept my old ones :)
