Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

Well I had a pretty good day today. Went to a gun show a couple hours away to see about finding a 10mm pistol and instead left with these.

Impressive!

It would’ve been cheaper to buy a gun!!

I was thinking the same thing. 🤣

Suffering from a very PLEASANT type of shell-shock here ;) This past weeks must've been the richest in my guise as collector. Trades, gifts, purchases I've been helped with and long standing Custom order being delivered. In no order, GEC 59 Hummingbird, Viper Ram's Horn, Jérôme Latreille in Warthog Tusk, SAK Excelsior in Red celidor, GEC 74 Pruner Jigged Micarta and TODAY a really odd but appealing 'special' Opinel No.9 huitre (Oyster) knife

That’s an interesting one, Will. Is the blade actually sharpened at all? I’ve looked at those before but could never really figure that out.

A couple days early. I've been eyeing Opinels for years, and just never got around to getting any. Picked up a 6, 7 and 8 to see how they're going to work for me. The No 6 is the smallest I'd be comfortable handling. No 8 feels right. No 7 doesn't feel bad but just kinda feels "meh" between the 6 and 8. Most likely 8, maybe a 9, going forward if I get any more. Oh yeah, Olive wood on the 6 and 8, standard Beechwood on the 7.

It’s kind of funny to consider buying an Opinel for years when they’re so (relatively) inexpensive, but I’m guilty of the same thing. For example, I’m eventually going to get around to buying an Otter Mercator and a Douk Douk. 🤣

Those are definitely the three sizes to try out in my opinion. I like the No. 6 because it’s the very pocketable, but it is a tad small. The No. 8 is a good all-around size, but can be a bit bulky in the pocket. I actually really like the in-between-ness of the No. 7.

You’ll probably like the No. 9. I think it’s good for keeping around the house or in a desk drawer, but I don’t think I’ve ever carried mine. I haven’t gone bigger than that (yet).

I really like the olive wood. I wish they offered that with carbon steel blade.

Yup. I guess buying things that disappear or become unobtanium while they were still available was higher on my list.

Size-wise, based on use around the apartment I'm thinking the No 8 is going to be the smallest. For me. I've found the lock a bit difficult to get a grip on and turn with my fingers. Probably won't be getting anymore for that reason as well. As I've been aging Arthur has set in, and grabbing a smooth round lock to turn is now a bit more difficult than I thought it might be.

The Olive is nice. More options would be good.

btb01 btb01 It seems unsharpened Barrett- maybe they forgot to 😂 but I think it makes sense to have it un-edged and to be used as a pry tool, one slip on wet slimy shellfish could lead to unintentional self-harm...:D

Yep, makes complete sense for shucking oysters (something I’ve never found myself doing). 🙂

For the last 3 months I've been buried in projects at work and haven't had time to post much, but that doesn't mean that I haven't been getting any new knives. I spent a little time today taking some pics and I'll try to post them before my boss figures out I have some free time.

First is a Camillus Marlinspike. Living out on the plains means I rarely find myself on water, but I always thought these were cool so I picked one up.

Bird & Trout from M.McAlevy M.McAlevy , Matthew McAlevy, McAlevy Custom Knives (specs below).

This knife is stellar and immediately put to use this weekend. Perfect size and exact four finger grip for me. Very nice sheath included, it gets lighter from opening to tip. Matthew’s knives shouldn’t last two minutes on the Exchange, and he should sell as many as he chooses to create.

Everything is darker and nicer than my washed out iPhone pictures.

btb01 btb01 What's all the inertia about the Douk-Douk?? You have to have at least one of the various sizes under your stewardship! No Black Cat either???? Well you should get the Copper handled lockback version then, next you'll be saying you have no CASE Penknife or Sodbuster....:eek:o_O

Get that DD they're a lot of fun, cool Scimitar blade too.

Here's an assortment of Rough Ryder's that have come my way over the last couple of months. Still catching up on taking pix of my newer arrivals.

First is an older Doctor's Knife. I have a few others of this pattern, but I really like the color on this one.

Next is a new Cotton Sampler. RR has been putting some kind of black goo under the covers on a few of their knives lately. I think they do it to hide gaps and to be able to build at lower tolerances. On other knives it doesn't really bother me, but on this one it shows through.

Next is what RR calls a 'Work Knife':

Next is a Canoe I bought just to re-cover. My wife like the color of this one so much that I had to keep it an buy another one to experiment on.

And sometimes you just have to buy something silly. I also bought a pink one for my daughter.

A couple of Swiss Army knives but the star of this party I must say is the Bark River BushCrafter II orange liners , Mosaic pins and Cross Cut Mammoth. This just might me the most beautiful knife I’ve ever owned. Feels really good in hand and the craftsmanship is amazing !
