  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Your opinion...What are the top 5 "must own" spydercos?

Eveerybody has just about covered what I have already on my list ~~ not fair.!*
1- Para2
2- Military
1-Delica ZDP 189
1- Endura
1- Acid Etched Dragonfly
All 5 of this should be NIB & you should have 5 users that you are EDC and in rotation now.!*

I think that 5 "must have" spydercos must be designed by Sal and Eric Glesser....

my votes for: Military, Paramilitary, Endura, Caly 3, Manix 2

Endura/Delcia

PM2

Southard

Yojimbo

Manix

Honorable mention goes to the Cricket for being super cool.

There are lots of great individual models and choices, but if I had to pick the essential 5 spydercos, I would go for something like this:
1) Original Manix cos it's just a classic (can substitute for M2 XL, if you can't find an original at reasonable price)
2) PM2 or Military, preferably in a fancy steel (I would like a PM2 is a super steel, but don't have one yet - and won't pay scalper prices for it. I do have a Military in s90v)
3) Street bowie (this is my favorite fixed blade, a Temperance or Mule would also be acceptable to fill this spot)
4) A classic EDC leaf blade - my choice would be the Calypso 3.5 (UK Penknife, Sage, etc, could also substitute)
5) Serrated Tasman (this covers the bases for a lightweight clipit with delica bloodlines, spyder-edge and hawkbill)

Good job Brummie. A very comprehensive and well thought out list. I was trying to imagine a list of five knives that would really give a person a good taste of what Spyderco knives were all about. A lot of folks have listed all high end knives. Don't get me wrong, I LIKE all the high end stuff, but I'm pretty sure that if you want the full spyderco experience, you need some of those $50-$60 endura/delica/dfly/salt kind of spydies too...hell, maybe even a tenacious. To me, a big part of the experience is value! I think spyderco offers a ton of value on some of their sub $100 folders!

It would be hard for me to choose any five. Seems it would be highly subjective to my taste so the list would be a bit skewed but I agree with most of the choices here.
Chaparral Ti
Sage1
Gayle Bradley
Techno
Among many others.
Really looking forward to the Domino(preorder)and a Southard.
Now I just need to find a vendor carrying the right PM2 that I want.

Just 5 is a hard one. My list would be:
-Southard
-Para 2
-Techno
-Manix 2 of some kind (lightweight or G10)
-Matriarch 2 (perfect self defense blade)

Stretch is at the top of my list, ZDP-189 should be experienced
FFG Delica or Endura -they are the latest revision of a classic
Something from the Salt line, and I like the "little big knife" suggestion, so how about a Dragonfly Salt?
Something with Spyderedge serrations, and I think everyone should try one of the full stainless models, so how about a serrated Police?
PM2 or Military for more of a tactical knife, and to have something other than a back lock and other than FRN scales.

Or to mix it up....
Stretch gives you FFG and FRN
Stainless Delica
Pacific Salt, serrated
G10 Dragonfly
Pm2/Military

PM 1. . .Who needs the drama around the 2 when the 1 works just fine?
Military . . .Plain Black with satin is fine but Orange, TI and Carpenter versions rule.
Native 5 . . .All time favorite for light EDC.
Endura Wave. . . For those times when speed might make a difference.
Police. . .Because it's an iconic design. Not real practical for most due to size but awesome to play with.

My thoughts:

Caly 3
Southard
Rock Salt
Original Manix
Gail Bradley or Recue

I'm a little ambivalent on the last two. I love my Bradley, but the rescue is always with me in my truck.....

I have a PM2, a Vallotton, Manix2, Gayle Bradley and Mule. I'm wanting to buy a Military and a Manix2 XL, so my list would become
PM2
GayleBradley
Mule
Military
Manix2 XL
