What happens when you don't have your favorite blade with you or it breaks or you lose it?? More than likely you'll be dependent on your back-up and/or EDC. It would be advisible to determine how well you can do in "the bush" with that SAK, Spyderco, Benchmade, etc. since Murphy is smiling about you best laid plans.

eastr77, how are you liking the Dayhiker? I have handled them at the Spyderco Outlet and thought it would be a good knife. It is still on my list.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on it.

kurodrago,

Nice setup. What kind of knife is that attached to the mag bar?

It's a little beauty, something between a knife and a cutter. with the screw that keeps the blade securely open and close.
The Wal-Mart should sell this little thing for $3 to $4, or at least something looked like.
Enjoy the photos:thumbup:

it's a great knife i've use it fir felling trees spliting wood down to the small task of making furry sticks for the fire. i real like the knife because of the wide spin it make for a perfect buton knife, the full flat grind blade gives good sliceing power. you might be suprised but the finish of the micarta is pretty grippy. the knife weights about 2 lbs but the blanace is just rite you can chop for long periods and you arm dosent feel like its coming off. over all the knife is a winner but the sheath is a little lose for my taste but a little heat and a pinch point and its good to go if you like i can take some pics of the hossum at work .fb16 woodlander it's the big boy the dayhiker is on my list.

You lucky duck!:D

How is that N690? I bet spyderco did a killing on the heat treat.

the 690 has been great so far but i have little knowledge of this steel .but what i can tell you is that can beat on a tree till it falls and still cut open a pack of hot dogs. cut rope or steak. in going to take it on my next white river trip. it stayed home this time because of weight issue i was worried about and it turned out the kyak had more than engough room and boyancy  wish i had got to take it. sorry for the miss spell on a few words.

I have taken the belt loop off my Scrap Yard SS4 kydex sheath and threaded paracord through the eyelets to attach the knife to my day pack straps. Other than that I usually just wear it on my belt.

Here is a pic of the knife and sheath to help you picture what I am talking about:

My BK7 with a modified handle in its original sheath with attachment for the leg. Its my survival setup for one-day hiking or other short outdoor activities.

My other knifes for outdoor use whit basic modifications. Mostly done fore a better grip and more control.
