Your recent opinion on Nick Shabazz ?

I remember when this tempest blew up here last Spring. The general consensus was that the scientific method and sample integrity used by transparentblades was terribly flawed. The overwhelming view was Rick might be a jerk, but probably justified in defending his name from pseudoscience. I reviewed the results presented and woulda sent them all back to the lab.

There are lots of jerks in the world, but that doesn’t make them bad at what they do.

I consider Nick to be a friend, so I think I can provide some background on this topic.

He didn’t do this to pick a side. He is just trying to steer clear of drama. That’s it. Nothing to see here.

I find Nick to be informative and entertaining. Quite a few of my knife purchase decisions have been made with the help of his reviews. I can actually watch any of his Vids from start to finish, which is way more than I can say for most of these internet hacks who believe they have a career in broadcasting just because they own a smart phone.

All's good, and thanks for the kind words here. I'm just scaling back the channel because my life is crazy busy, and something's gotta give (and I'd rather that not be me!). Plus, there are so many amazing up-and-coming content creators in the knife space now that I'm happy to back off and give them more space for the algorithm to let them shine.

As Frailer Frailer said, pulling the Hinderer videos was just a precaution. When a maker gets angry and lawyery in response to public criticism of any sort (rather than calmly addressing it one-on-one), it's a red flag, and even though I don't think Hinderer knows or cares who I am (and I generally liked his stuff), I'd just as soon steer clear of drama.

I love his videos, he's one of the reasons I got so enthusiastic about collecting. I was able to learn a lot in a short amount of time and learn about what I should be looking for. He's straight to the point, has zero agenda as far as I can tell. He's genuine and passionate about the hobby, and he's helping people understand something. Hope he continues for a long time!

my idea is he's just doing this as to have a u-tube channel ! I wonder if he really uses he's knifes!!! but on the other hand he has showing some grate knifes.

Seriously tho, it’s a shame he won’t be reviewing Hinderers. I don’t care for his voice, but yeah Nick is definitely a big part of the knife community and for that I am grateful for what he did/ does. And yeah those disassembly vids can be gold!
