Agreed. The results of the Facebook Poll had me scratching my head in disbelief and it was the impetus to create this more realistic poll.

My guess is that all the flippers who have been screaming at BM for a 42 re-release slanted that poll in a big way as a sort of call to action for it to actually happen. It also wouldn't surprise me if some non flippers voted that way too. The 42 is the ONLY bali I have any interest in.

I love my 551 Grip and 943, but I had to vote for the 940/943 line, its nearly perfect and so so pretty :)

What I find most interesting: People whom actually USE knives tend not to vote for Bali's, unlike the Facebook bracket.

Agreed. The results of the Facebook Poll had me scratching my head in disbelief and it was the impetus to create this more realistic poll.

I USE MY knives and I voted for the 42, reason is I love the 42, for flipping and for using. The only thing that makes this poll different is the "balisong" crowd isn't here, they mostly stick to other forums with, how should I say, more leniency in the rules of conduct. There were plenty of comments in the FB bracket crying about "mall ninjas" and the "dumb 42". There have been more variations and re-releases of the 42 than any other knife in the BM lineup. That says a lot for it's popularity.

My EDC is a grip, mostly for work and other times when carrying my 42 wouldn't be prudent. The 42 is a great EDC and mines as sharp as any other knife I own, and I have the scars to prove it. Now what would be great is a re-release of the 42 with upgraded steels, M4, M390, S30V, etc...

I agree with the statements above...the 42 had a big part of making Benchmade what it is today.

Poll is fail for me since you lumped it in as "Balisong family". The 42 is my favorite Benchmade, but other than the 51 I don't care as much for their other Bali's...

Looks like I'll be needing to check out the 940! I knew they were popular, but not that popular!

Great thread.

I voted Contego. After getting a second well used Contego, and using it well myself, it is really dominating all my other blades.

With 344 votes counted it looks like the Griptillian Family is solidifying its hold on the top spot!

The top 3 spots still account for over half (51.17%) the votes!

There's an interesting battle of the brawny ones with the Adamas Family leading the Contego Family!

That probably has a lot to do with price. Same as Buds top selling guns. More people can afford the less expensive models.

Almost 20 days into the poll with 375 votes counted and the top 3 spots still account for just over half (50.14%) the votes!

There's a tie for the top spot between the Griptilian Family & the 940/943 Family!

710 is in a solid third place.

In fourth & fifth places, there's a battle of the brawns with the Adamas Family leading the Contego Family.

Almost a full four weeks into the poll with 397 votes counted and the top 3 spots still account for just over half (50.12%) the votes!

The 940/943 Family has secured the top spot with the Griptilian Family a close second!

710 is in a solid third place.

In the battle of the brawns the Contego Family is ahead of the Adamas Family.

  1. 940/943 Family ..... (79) 19.90%
  2. Griptilian Family .. (76) 19.14%

My experience with Benchmade is limited but within my experience I made a fantastic choice in the 940. Perfect for my usage as a whittler of stuff, and also stunning to the eye. Then outcomes the 940-1. The S90V steel holds an edge longer than the S30V of the 940 with all the beauty in form and also a satisfying subtle carbon fiber color and texture. Light, dissolving in my pocket; ready to respond at my command. Forgot to say...smoooth!

Well the only benchmade I have now is the small bone collector axis walnut handles. The quality of it I always loved, but it has really grown on me over time yo one of my favorites. I've decided to invest in more despite their expense as I love the quality. I've handled the contego and 300 and liked both a lot as well.

950 rift, griptillian, and I don't own one but my brother does and I don't think I've seen any votes but i really like the triage too.
