YOUR Traditional Knife of the Year 2024 (There can be only ONE!)

Thanks for once again hosting this annual thread Jack Black Jack Black ! I was able to obtain a long-desired GEC 47 in desert ironwood, but I have not been able to bring myself to carry it... I got a sweet peanut that I do carry some (see avatar) and enjoy. That said this LT Wright Patriot has been carried all but maybe two or three days since I received it the first week of July (and most often solo). You know me, I rarely take pics since I tend to carry the same day to day... this pic is from the summer:

Thanks for taking part Michael :) Cool choice :) I was lucky enough to be gifted a Patriot by Paul @jakeywax last year :)

Here are my two most favorite knives of the year. Choosing just one is hard. I have the Buck 301 which has been in my pocket more than not since I got it a month or so ago. It's my first Stockman, and I am really taking a shine to the pattern, especially this one with the long pull and wedge on the clip blade. Having said that, it is the runner up for the year.

Eagle eyed viewers will notice a second knife in the above picture. It is my KOTY for 2024. My KOTY is one I semi-made myself. The steel itself is a CPM 154 small caper blank from a well known knife supply site. I put in a sharpening coil, rounded of the sharp edges, and handled it with some whitetail antler and brass rod I had lying around. I finished it with a few coats of super glue to seal the antler, sharpened it to a keen edge, and then made a pocket sheath for it that keeps it deep carry in the pocket. There really is something to say about carrying something you have made.

I'm not sure that I have gotten a new knife in 2024. I think the latest knives I have, which include a new Old Timer Sharpfinger, Buck 55, Case Sodbuster JR, and an LT Wright Camp Muk, were all in 2023, and all were gifts from members here, with the Sodbuster and Buck 55 being won in a GAW. Of those, I retain only the Camp Muk, which is in pass around currently (if anyone wants to enter you're still welcome to do so - https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/camper-the-traveling-muk-aka-pass-the-muk.1989439/ ).

The others were all passed along as gifts. The Buck 55 to my wife, the Case Sodbuster Jr to a new friend, and the Sharpfinger to a friend last winter.

The Sodbuster that went to the new friend was just a few weeks ago. This guy I think has an interest in knives, I saw the spark in his eye when I asked him if he liked knives. When I gave it to him he seemed excited. So I hope very much he develops a love for traditional cutlery.

That's awesome! Hope that you like it at least half as much as I do lol! Beard&Owl Beard&Owl made me a pocket sheath and I find it fits nicely in the back pocket of jeans or more often in the front of shorts.
Thanks Michael, it was a wonderful surprise :)

Very generous :)

The City Stock... the scales blew me away but still the knife did not sit well me.

Luckily, a gentleman offered to trade his Waynort #35 Harness Jack for my City Stock - I.E a Waynort for a Waynorth, simple as that.
My decision to jump in on the trade was not only easy but it also proved to be the right decision as I now, almost daily, get a big grin on my face when I slide the HJ into my pocket.
The #35 HJ is without doubt my traditional knife of the year.

Jacques, I'm glad you got the knife you like!!! It'd be a tough choice for me, between those two!!! 😁
Thanks! I love this knife, it's exactly what I want from a traditional knife in terms of usability and aesthetics.
I guess that for you there would be an element of 'choosing between your children' which would have made the decision harder, ehh ;) Your statement proves though that it was a fair trade; a good knife for a good knife and just that.
Keep 'em coming Charlie!!! 🤩

This year is fairly easy, this red stag 53, love stag and multi blade knives.

Beautiful 😊👍

I haven't bought any new knives this year but I have been carrying this one every day and using it.

Very nice 😊👍

Thank you sir. I take that as a high compliment!

😊👍

My KOTY is the 2024 Northfield GEC Rendezvous knife. I have enjoyed every moment of carrying it

This was the year when i started dyeing a lot of knives along with my Bro-in-law, Nathan. This 39 came with what I thought was a substandard, dirty looking, molted, gray dye job. I thought it would look better with some purple color. I did enjoy the dyeing process and personalizing the knife. I may add more color later.

Dye job looks great, very unique! Lance

Buck 55. Reminds me of the Buck 110 which was the knife I wanted more than any other as a kid, but much easier to edc.
Great knives :)
