Your Two Cents!

Hawkeye! You are correct, well White Carved Bone Stag to be pedantic :p Well done 'Bubo bubo'

A hale and hearty fellow sent me this wonderful old silver dime, after I corrected a mixup in his order for a knife.
The Dime is a little older than I am!

That's a Barlow man if I've ever seen one! :)

Is that your Grandson Charlie? He's a keeper!!

I suppose I'll unmask myself as the "hale and hearty fellow" who benefitted from Charlie's uncommon generosity. The young fellow is my new son Charles Everett, who is a big part of the reason a return coin took so long. If any of you run into the Frau, mum's the word: she doesn't know he's names after Mr. C. 😱 😉

And now that you mention it, he HAS been eying my knives....😀

I try to remember to do that but sometimes I forget, the "custom" of doing that I learned from watching the movie "The Edge" with Anthony Hopkins when he received that lovely folder as a birthday gift, made by well known Canadian knife maker, Brian Lyttle, also a friend I met at Ashokan a few times now.

link to a photo

I received a Canadian penny from Sitflyer, with a knife that he kindly sold me.

I very much appreciated the gesture of him not only selling me such a rare Charlow, but, the inclusion of the Canadian penny.:)

Here is the PPP Charlow and penny he sent me:

I too believe in the time honored tradition and try to always remember a coin for a knife.

I also remember in the movie "The Edge" where Bob (Alec Baldwin) gifts a knife to Chas (Anthony Hopkins) for his birthday and Chas reaches into his pocket and fetches a nice coin and hands it too him. Chas, a billionaire with a photographic memory, proclaims something similar to "Ah - yes - a coin for a knife - so it will not cut the friendship" and I also liked the lines where Chas answered the lodge owner's question of why a rabbit is unafraid of a bear - and Chas answers that the Rabbit is smarter than the bear - oh well - something like that.

I suppose the coin for knife tradition did not work in the movie, because Bob later tries to kill Charles, but, instead gets backed into a bear deadfall, which eventually kills him! Charles actually fishes Bob out of the trap and tries to save his life, however, was not successful.

The gifted traditional pocket knife is the one tool that is proven to be the deciding difference between life and death, in this movie. It is shown in use, many times, throughout the movie!

A very good movie to watch, with beautiful scenery, if you have not seen it!:D

Indeed, I'll have to give it another watch maybe today, picked up the blu-ray version, colours are a bit nicer in that rendition.

And on one side of the paddle was a panther, the other side a rabbit smoking a pipe, unafraid, because he is smarter than the panther ;)

Good stuff, even learn how to make fire from ice too :)

a shot of Brian Lyttle at Ashokan giving a lesson on engraving, which he is extremely good at!

I suppose the coin for knife tradition did not work in the movie, because Bob was doing some mis-deeds with Chas beautiful wife and he later tries to kill Charles, but, instead gets backed into a bear trap, which eventually kills him! The old rabbit outsmarted the younger bear again! :D

and then Charles actually fishes Bob out of the trap and tries to save his life, however, was not successful.

Well so much for watching the movie now Primble.:eek: You just ruined the plot for me. :grumpy:  :D:D

I stand corrected.:D:D:D I knew something seemed a little out of whack with my recollection, thus my proclomation of "Oh well - something like that!" :D

I had forgot about the fire from ice too. I might watch the DVD tonight - it has been a while! ;):p

And another interesting tid bit, regarding coins, in the USA we have never made any coins with the word Penny on it, those were made in Great Britain, in the USA we make Cents, and yet we often refer to them as pennies, just weird info to know ;)

I had to go back and read a bit further to learn that the handsome lad belongs to Michael - so I will toss my hat into the congratulations ring, as well !
