Oh, oh.

What joy, to check in after a long day's work and see such a wonderfully composed picture that captures the very heart of the goodness I've come to know here.

Thank you.

~ P.

Glad you liked it! You might recognize some hand writing in there that made my day once as well:)

Nice package of goodies, r8shell! Way to go Jack!

Brad, where is that Pure Copper coin from?

Charlie I have a knife friend that works for a large metals recycling company. They do some private minting as well. This coin is not legal tender, just 1 oz. of pure copper. They make a great GAW for young kids.

My! Nice assortment you acquired there Brad.
Someone even sent you their 1st year chip! Those come dearly, must be a good friend!!

Dave

Yes Dave, he is a very close friend and there is a lot of history associated with that coin, knives too!

What's a first year Chip, Dave?

In hindsight I probably should have left that out of the picture but it is in my box of knife coins and I just dumped them out after arranging the other stuff. It is a 1 year sobriety coin from AA.

You're very welcome r8shell

Thanks Charlie, nice to see this thread has legs :)

I agree, Jack. It speaks to an integral part of this lovely game we play!

Thanks Dave and Brad for answering my question!
I certainly did not wish to embarrass anyone. And I would certainly be proud of earning a 1st year chip! May he earn many more, Brad! Having a couple of people close to me struggling with similar problems, earning those chips can be the hardest things people have done in their lives!

A quarter Penny for your thoughts Jack!

Nice Wren on that, such a tiny bird but so courageous, if I remember my Shakespeare correctly.

Thanks, Will

Very nice find there Jack. It's been a long time sine I've seen one of those.....knives I mean......I'm not old enough to remember a farthing! :p

Nice knife, Jack! The farthing is a super nice coin. One of the favorites of the one you sent to me. I am holding it now.

Charlie, the standing Liberty has to be one of the most beautiful coins ever!

The generosity here to my collective nature, from so many fine individuals, still astounds me. I cherish every one!!. I have framed them, wear one as a necklace, and carry an assortment in my pocket from time to time. Its a tradition that is close to my heart as are all of you.

Here is one framed bunch

Would you happen to know what the coin with the six prong candle stick (forgive me for not recalling the name) is called. it is in the upper right corner closer to the knife. I have one of these and would like to know what it is. :o Nice collection there

Its a 1/2 Lira,Zemapeli. This was given to me by Mike Berkovitch from Israel. The symbol is a Menorah flanked by olive branches. It also represents the Tree of Life and the Three Pillars and the Four Worlds in esoteric Judaism.

There are two other similar coins but here is a link to all the information on this one. The others are quite similar. You can see them all here:

Thanks guys. I just missed the farthing, we used to use them as card-game tokens when I was a kid.

You're very welcome my friend :) Both Nickel and knife are very cool, Duane is a top guy :)

Yes, that Buffalo Nickel is a handsome coin, must look for one. Talking of creatures on coins, the old coins from Ireland before 1970 had some fine looking animals on them, my favourite being the silver/nickel Threepence with a Hibernian Hare . I have an odd superstition (aren't they all...) in that I carry this Irish Threepence, a Canadian 5c with a Beaver on it and a Greek coin with an Owl. There's also a St.George&Dragon in my wallet, gold Half Sovereign, quite a an EDC menagerie...

Knife content: no room in my watch pocket therefore :D:D

Regards, Will

This letter came today! You are welcome, Jon, and thanks for the wonderful coin! It is just a bit older than I, minted in 1943. Makes me feel young!!

That guy on the coin is one busy deity!!

"Mercury is a major Roman god, being one of the Dii Consentes* within the ancient Roman pantheon. He is the patron god of financial gain, commerce, eloquence (and thus poetry), messages/communication (including divination), travelers, boundaries, luck, trickery and thieves; he is also the guide of souls to the underworld."

*The Dii Consentes, also as Di or Dei Consentes (once Dii Complices[1]), was a list of twelve major deities, six gods and six goddesses, in the pantheon of Ancient Rome.
Ain't Wikipedia Great?

Every once in a while, Duncan sends a care package to this Kiwi-deprived household. This time, it was a nice bunch of Kiwi flavored or scented goodies that my wife especially likes, especially the hand creme. I sense Sue's influence!
Tucked alongside all the bulky stuff was a nice letter, to which was affixed a veritable treasure of old coins.
I am sure Duncan dug them up on a remote NZ beach!!

Thank you, Sue and Duncan! Most kind of you, and much appreciated by both of us!

I'm getting ready for work so this is a quicky post without reading the whole thread (yet).

I do the coin tradition on knives all the time at home. I used to put handles on a few (not great) knives and gave many away, always with a penny to be returned. My dad told me it was unlucky to be superstitious but it's a nice sentiment, not wanting the friendship to be severed.

On the forum GAW's though, it is a "pay it forward" thing to me. If a person feels a need to return the karma, it should be passed forward. Not necessarily on the forum nor even in a big way.
